Today’s reading: Psalms Psalms 81:10

Open wide your mouth

We read in Psalms 81:10:

10 I am the LORD your God,
Who brought you out of the land of Egypt;
Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.

Have you seen a parent bird feeding its little ones? The small birds open their mouths with great enthusiasm, yearning, and excitement. The young birds don’t simply open their mouths, but they open them wide open!

They open their mouths as if their lives depend on it because, in reality, their lives really depend on it. It’s a matter of life and death.

That’s the type of attitude God wants to see in us. He wants us to open our mouths wide open so that He can fill them with His goodness, love, and favor.

Sadly, this wasn’t the case with the ancient Israelites. In verse 11, we read:

11 “But My people would not heed My voice,
And Israel would have none of Me.

But we don’t have to be like the Israelites. We can choose to open our mouths to God. We don’t have to go to other gods. We don’t have to go to other sources. We don’t have to go to earthly and material possessions to get filled.

God is saying that He has the power and great ability to meet our needs. He can provide all that we need as well as the desires of our hearts.

All we have to do is turn to Him and open wide our mouths as the young birds open their mouths to their parent bird.
