Today’s reading: Psalms 8:3-4

The bigness of God and smallness of men

We read in Psalms 8:3-4:

3 When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The moon and the stars, which You have ordained,

4 What is man that You are mindful of him,
And the son of man that You visit him?

Based on some estimates, the naked eye can see about 5,000 stars in the night sky. Yet, there are billions upon billions of stars in the universe that it starts to blow our minds.

The speed of light is 299,792,458 meters/second. Some astronomers said that if you travel at the speed of light, it will take you 40 billion years to reach the edge of the universe.

That’s just beyond our human comprehension.

We know how big celestial bodies are. Just an example, the Earth is like a nickel and Jupiter would be like a basketball. Imagine, Jupiter is about 11x wider than the Earth!

Yet, there are much, much bigger planets than Jupiter.

What’s so amazing about this is that these planets are just the work of God’s finger!

Can you imagine what God can do with His whole hands? It’s quite unimaginable, but the picture is there.

God is so big and we are so small. This fact doesn’t bother God.

In all of God’s Glory, majesty, and power, He is still mindful of man. He is still concerned about you and me. He is still there taking note of us. Above all, He loves us and calls us His children.

It’s quite comforting to know that the God who created the universe is the same God we can cry out to, “Abba, Father!”
