The best Christian books for October 2026

1. Contend: Standing Boldly for Biblical Truth While Winning the War Within by Philip Anthony Mitchell

What if following Christ requires more than simply believing?

In Contend: Standing Boldly for Biblical Truth While Winning the War Within, Philip Anthony Mitchell challenges Christians to move beyond passive belief and become active defenders of their faith.

Drawing inspiration from the biblical letter of Jude, Mitchell addresses the dangers of false teachings, spiritual compromise, and complacency within the Church. He reminds readers that Christianity is not merely about identifying ourselves as believers. It is about living out our faith, standing firmly for biblical truth, and remaining faithful even when doing so becomes difficult.

The book also explores the personal battles Christians face, including sin, disbelief, insecurity, and unforgiveness. It encourages readers to develop a deeper relationship with Christ while boldly proclaiming the Gospel with love and grace.

Each chapter concludes with a Scripture-based takeaway and a practical challenge to help readers put what they have learned into action.

Why read this book?

If you feel that your spiritual life has become comfortable or stagnant, this book may challenge you to take your faith more seriously. It is particularly relevant for Christians who want to stand firm in their convictions and help the next generation remain grounded in biblical truth.

2. Making Peace with What I Can’t Control by Lysa TerKeurst

Are you exhausted from trying to control everything around you?

Sometimes, our desire to prevent bad things from happening becomes a burden we were never meant to carry. We worry about our families, relationships, finances, and future. We try to fix other people’s problems and become frustrated when circumstances do not turn out the way we hoped.

In Making Peace with What I Can’t Control, bestselling author Lysa TerKeurst explores this familiar struggle and offers a healthier approach to dealing with life’s uncertainties.

She explains how fear can lead us to cross the line between healthy responsibility and unhealthy control. While our intentions may be good, trying to manage everything and everyone can leave us emotionally exhausted.

Through personal experiences and biblical encouragement, TerKeurst helps readers recognize the fears behind their controlling tendencies, understand when they need to step back, and learn to surrender matters beyond their control to God.

The book also addresses difficult questions, such as why God sometimes allows painful circumstances and how we can continue trusting Him when we do not understand what He is doing.

Why read this book?

This is a worthwhile read for Christians struggling with anxiety, uncertainty, difficult relationships, or the overwhelming desire to have everything figured out. It reminds us that we have responsibilities, but we are not responsible for controlling every outcome.

3. One Minute with God for Men: 365 Devotions by Ronald A. Beers and V. Gilbert Beers

What if you could spend a meaningful moment with God every day, even with a busy schedule?

Developing a consistent devotional habit can be challenging, especially for men balancing work, family responsibilities, and other commitments.

One Minute with God for Men offers a simple way to incorporate daily spiritual encouragement into an otherwise busy routine.

This devotional contains 365 readings organized around important themes relevant to men. Each entry includes a thought-provoking question, a devotional reflection, a response from Scripture, and a biblical promise or challenge.

Its compact design makes it convenient to carry in a backpack, keep on a bedside table, or bring along when traveling.

Although each reading is brief, the goal is to encourage men to pause, reflect on God’s Word, and consider how they can apply biblical principles throughout their day.

Why read this book?

This devotional makes a practical companion for men who want to establish a daily habit of spiritual reflection. It can also be a thoughtful gift for husbands, fathers, sons, or young men beginning their journey of faith.

However, remember that a short devotional should serve as a starting point for spending time with God, not a replacement for studying Scripture.

Are you aware of the spiritual battle taking place beyond what your eyes can see?

The Bible teaches that Christians face more than physical and earthly struggles. There is also a spiritual dimension to the challenges believers encounter.

In The Battle for Your Soul, Dr. David Jeremiah explores the subject of spiritual warfare and how Christians can recognize the enemy’s strategies without becoming consumed by fear or speculation.

The book emphasizes that spiritual warfare should not lead believers into panic. Instead, understanding the reality of this battle should strengthen their confidence in Jesus Christ.

Among the topics discussed are recognizing spiritual attacks, protecting the heart and mind, understanding the enemy’s tactics, and finding assurance in the victory Christ has already secured.

Rather than encouraging Christians to become obsessed with darkness, the book directs their attention toward the One who has overcome the world.

Why read this book?

If you want to understand spiritual warfare and learn how to approach it from a biblical perspective, this book may be worth adding to your reading list. It encourages believers to remain spiritually alert while placing their confidence in God rather than living in fear.

5. Baby’s First Bible Stories by Rachel Elliot

How early should you introduce your children to the stories of the Bible?

This padded board book contains 12 familiar Bible stories retold in simple language that young children can understand. Some of the stories include Creation, Noah’s Ark, Baby Moses, and Daniel in the Lions’ Den.

The book also includes age-appropriate prayers and interactive elements designed to encourage curiosity and parent-child bonding.

Its sturdy board pages are made with little hands in mind, while the colorful illustrations help keep young readers engaged.

One of the most valuable aspects of this book is that it gives parents an opportunity to introduce biblical stories during everyday moments, whether before bedtime, during playtime, or as part of a family reading routine.

Why read this book?

This is a lovely option for parents, grandparents, and anyone looking for a Christian gift for a baby or toddler.

More importantly, it can help establish an early interest in biblical stories. Parents can build on that foundation as their children grow by gradually introducing them to the actual Scriptures.

6. The Screwtape Letters by C. S. Lewis

What if you could understand temptation from the perspective of the tempter?

One of the most fascinating Christian literary works ever written, The Screwtape Letters by C. S. Lewis approaches spiritual struggles from an unusual perspective.

The book is presented as a collection of fictional letters written by Screwtape, a senior demon, to his nephew Wormwood, a young demon assigned to tempt an ordinary human being.

Through their correspondence, Lewis explores the subtle ways temptation, pride, selfishness, distraction, and spiritual complacency can influence human behavior.

What makes this book particularly interesting is its use of satire and irony. Instead of explaining temptation through a conventional theological discussion, Lewis invites readers to examine ordinary human weaknesses through the imagined eyes of a demon trying to lead someone away from God.

Although the story is fictional, its observations about human nature and spiritual struggles can prompt serious reflection.

Why read this book?

If you enjoy Christian literature that challenges the way you think, The Screwtape Letters is an excellent choice.

It encourages readers to become more aware of the seemingly insignificant attitudes and habits that can gradually affect their spiritual lives.

It is also a reminder that temptation does not always appear in an obvious or dramatic form. Sometimes, the greatest spiritual dangers are found in the ordinary decisions we make every day.

7. The Altar of Pergamon: The Mystery of the Dark Angel and the Future of the World by Jonathan Cahn

Could an ancient mystery hold clues to understanding the events shaping our modern world?

Jonathan Cahn takes readers on an unusual journey in The Altar of Pergamon, a book that combines mystery, suspense, historical references, and biblical themes.

The story follows Ariel Herzog, a skeptic who receives a mysterious page from a secret book. His discovery leads him into an investigation involving an ancient object, hidden organizations, and events connected to the history and future of the world.

The narrative travels through several locations, including New York, Istanbul, Berlin, Moscow, and Jerusalem. Along the way, the characters encounter mysterious individuals and uncover connections that the author presents as part of a much larger mystery.

The book raises questions about the unseen forces behind historical events, the rise of destructive ideologies, and the spiritual dimensions of world history.

Cahn presents his work as a revelation of a mystery that he believes has influenced the course of history and continues to affect the future.

Why read this book?

If you enjoy Christian books that combine suspense, historical mysteries, and prophetic themes, this may be an interesting addition to your reading list.

However, as with any Christian book that makes claims about prophecy, history, or hidden spiritual forces, readers should carefully examine its interpretations against Scripture rather than automatically accepting every conclusion.

8. Into the Quiet: Following Jesus in a World of Noise by John Mark Comer

When was the last time you experienced genuine silence and spent uninterrupted time with God?

Modern life is filled with constant distractions. Smartphones, social media, news updates, entertainment, and endless responsibilities compete for our attention.

Even when we want to spend time with God, we can find ourselves struggling to concentrate.

In Into the Quiet: Following Jesus in a World of Noise, John Mark Comer explores the importance of solitude, silence, and stillness in developing a deeper spiritual life.

Comer argues that the constant noise and activity of modern society can make it increasingly difficult for people to pay attention to God and cultivate a meaningful relationship with Him.

Drawing on historical Christian practices and spiritual disciplines, he encourages readers to step away from unnecessary distractions and rediscover the value of quiet moments in God’s presence.

The book explores how intentionally slowing down can help us become more attentive, peaceful, and spiritually grounded.

Why read this book?

If you constantly feel overwhelmed, distracted, or spiritually exhausted, this book may encourage you to reconsider how you spend your time.

It is a helpful reminder that our relationship with God should not be squeezed into whatever time remains after everything else has demanded our attention.

Sometimes, we need to step away from the noise so we can give proper attention to the things that truly matter.

9. Love That Lasts: Finding Purpose in the One Who Never Fails by Ally Yost

Are you looking for your purpose in the wrong places?

In Love That Lasts, Ally Yost shares her journey of discovering the peace and purpose that come from a relationship with God.

Drawing from her personal experiences, she discusses struggles with insecurity, comparison, self-worth, and the pressure to meet society’s expectations.

She encourages readers to rediscover the simplicity of childlike faith and understand their value through God’s love rather than through worldly standards.

The book also explores the importance of knowing who God is and recognizing the unique purpose He has for each individual.

Through an honest and approachable writing style, Yost invites readers to move away from the endless pursuit of approval and toward a deeper connection with Christ.

Why read this book?

This book may resonate particularly with younger Christians and readers struggling with comparison, anxiety, or questions about their purpose in life.

It encourages readers to look beyond temporary achievements and recognize the importance of building their lives around their relationship with God.

10. The Case for Christ: A Journalist’s Personal Investigation of the Evidence for Jesus by Lee Strobel

Is there credible historical evidence that Jesus Christ really is who He claimed to be?

Faith is central to Christianity, but that does not mean Christians should be afraid of asking difficult questions.

In The Case for Christ, former atheist and investigative journalist Lee Strobel examines the historical evidence surrounding Jesus Christ.

Approaching the subject with the mindset of an investigative reporter, Strobel interviews scholars and experts in different fields, asking questions about the reliability of the New Testament, the historical existence of Jesus, the evidence for His divinity, and the reality of His resurrection.

Rather than simply accepting Christian claims without examination, Strobel investigates them through discussions involving history, science, philosophy, and biblical scholarship.

The result is a compelling exploration of some of the most important questions surrounding Christianity.

The book has sold millions of copies and continues to be widely read by Christians and those interested in examining the foundations of the Christian faith.

Why read this book?

If you have questions about the historical foundations of Christianity or want to explore arguments concerning Jesus’ identity and resurrection, this book provides an accessible introduction to those discussions.

It can also be a useful resource when engaging with skeptics who have questions about the Christian faith.

As always, readers should examine the arguments presented and compare them with the biblical accounts themselves.

The Best Christian Book You Should Read Is Still the Bible

After looking at these ten Christian books, there is one important reminder worth emphasizing.

As helpful as Christian books can be, the best book every Christian should read is still the Bible.

Books written by Christian authors can provide encouragement, offer fresh perspectives, explain difficult concepts, and share practical lessons. However, they are still written by human beings. Their interpretations, conclusions, and teachings must be examined carefully.

The Bible, on the other hand, is the foundation upon which our faith should be built.

Consider what the apostle Paul wrote:

“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”

2 Timothy 3:16 (NKJV)

Notice that Scripture is profitable for doctrine, correction, and instruction in righteousness. It does not merely inspire us emotionally. It teaches us what is right, exposes what is wrong, corrects our understanding, and guides us toward a life that pleases God.

This is why we should never allow books about the Bible to replace the Bible itself.

In fact, whenever you read a Christian book, develop the habit of opening your Bible and examining the Scriptures being discussed. Do not simply accept an author’s interpretation because the author is popular, well-known, or highly respected.

Remember what the Bereans did when Paul preached to them:

“These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.”

Acts 17:11 (NKJV)

They did not blindly accept what they heard. They examined the Scriptures to determine whether the teachings were true.

We should develop that same attitude.

So, if you are planning your reading list this November, feel free to explore these Christian books. Learn from them, reflect on their lessons, and allow helpful insights to encourage your spiritual growth.

But above everything else, make time to read, study, meditate on, and obey God’s Word.

Christian books can help you understand the journey, but the Bible must remain your ultimate guide.

Happy reading, and may your study of God’s Word continue to deepen your faith!
