Today’s reading: Philippians 4:6-7

Be anxious for nothing

We read in Philippians 4:6-7:

6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

According to statistics, about 20% of people in the US suffer from anxiety attacks. Whether you are in the US or not, you know that anxiety is a common problem. Even mentally healthy people get anxious at times.

As humans, we get anxious because we don’t have full control and knowledge of the future. We don’t know what will happen next. We are limited.

However, instead of worrying and getting anxious, the Apostle tells us to pray, be thankful, and let God know what makes us anxious.

It may be easier said than done. I know the feeling when you are seriously anxious. You feel powerless and you’re scared of what will happen next.

While this might be the case, overcoming anxiety is possible. It may be difficult, but it can be done.

We can’t do it on our own. We need God’s help, power, and strength. That’s why, when you are feeling anxious, the first solution is prayer.

Whatever that’s making you anxious, worried, and afraid, bring it to Yahweh. Surrender it to Him. Let God handle your problems. Ask for His help so that you should be able to overcome the problem you’re going through right now.

In addition to prayer, the antidote for anxiety is thankfulness. When you’re thankful, when you are focused on God’s blessings, goodness, and divine providence, there’s no more room in your heart and mind for worry and anxiety.

Fill your heart with thankfulness and you’ll soon flush out worries and fears.

Once you have done this, the extraordinary peace of the Almighty will be upon you. It’s not the peace that this world offers, but the genuine peace that only God can offer.

When you are anxious, remember, pray and give thanks. Let God’s peace reign in your life.
