Today’s reading: Ephesians 5:18-20

Singing songs of worship

We read in Ephesians 5:18-20:

18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, 20 giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ…

The Apostle Paul taught us not to be drunk but to be filled with God’s Holy Spirit. What’s interesting here is that Paul described that a person who is filled with the Holy Spirit is someone who regularly and habitually worships God. Specifically, Paul says that we speak in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. We also make melodies in our hearts.

A lot of us think of worship as something we only do in Sabbath services. However, that’s not exactly what the Bible teaches us.

Worship is a way of life. It is not contained in four walls. We worship Yahweh wherever we are. We worship Him not just when we have the time, but we actually make time to worship Him!

If we take into heart the instruction of Paul, we should be singing hymns to God more often. We should not be ashamed to sing songs to God. We shouldn’t be afraid to proclaim God’s goodness in our lives.

Worshiping God isn’t just an outward sign of being filled with the Holy Spirit. Worshiping God can also help us be filled with the Holy Spirit. So, it has a tremendous benefit for us.

Worshiping the Almighty is an important part of our religion. It constantly reminds us that we are nothing without God. It makes us thankful for all the things God has done for us.

Worship is no doubt important and you can’t fully become a follower of Yahshua without it.
