Today’s reading: Ephesians 5:15-16

Redeem the time

We read in Ephesians 5:15-16:

15 See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, 16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

Our life is our time. How you spend your time determines what life you will have. The problem is that Satan has created a lot of distractions and ways for us to waste our precious time, and therefore, our life.

Look around us. See how people waste their time. They don’t recognize the fact that once the time is spent, you can never take it back. Time waits for no one.

That’s why Paul was telling us to redeem the time — to spend what time we have left for the things that matter most in our lives.

We must live this life as wise and not as fools. Wise people use their time properly. Foolish people use their time without any purpose and goal.

Why do we have to redeem the time? Paul tells us that the days are evil. We live in a world that is messy and chaotic. Because of lawlessness, evil abounds. We see evil all around us.

Thus, if we are not going to redeem our time and live wisely, we will not be able to fulfill God’s purpose in our lives.

The danger of living in evil days is that it doesn’t just steal our time, but rather, it can also cut short our time.

We don’t really know when we will still be here on earth. In a world ruled by Satan, anything can happen. We can be involved in an accident. We can be infected with a deadly disease. Evil men may do us harm.

All these should wake us up and make us realize that we are running out of time. We won’t live forever and thus, we should do our best in making the most out of our remaining time.

Most importantly, we must grab every opportunity to bring glory to God. That’s the wisest decision you can ever make with your time.
