Last October 29, 2022, more than 150 people died and 140 people were injured after a crowd surge in a narrow alley in Itaewon, Seoul caused a massive stampede.
Most of the victims are young adults who took part in the country’s biggest Halloween party after the easing of pandemic restrictions.
According to reports, over 100,000 people gathered together in Seoul. The authorities weren’t prepared to handle such a huge number of people. Thus, just after 10 pm (local time), a stampede broke out, leaving countless bodies lying on the ground, some injured while others are lifeless.
Here’s a video to give you an idea of how bad the situation was before the stampede happened:
Harmless entertainment?
The Bible is clear that pagan celebrations such as Halloween are an abomination to God. To read a brief history of Halloween, please read, “The Halloween Tragedy: Its History and How It Melds with Christianity.”
While people would argue that Halloween isn’t about paganism anymore, we can still see a lot of the practices related to it that remained.
Perhaps, you might have heard it, “What’s wrong with Halloween? It’s just harmless entertainment.”
Yet, we see here how seemingly an innocent celebration turned into a nightmare.
Friends, we don’t need a tragedy such as the recent South Korea stampede to understand why God doesn’t want us to celebrate Halloween.
It’s sad to see how so many people have to die senselessly. We pray for the people who died during that night, for those injured and that they recover quickly, and for the bereaved families who lost their loved ones.
While we sigh and cry for the people who died, we must also learn the lesson here.
This tragedy reminds us that we need to move closer to God and avoid celebrating dark and devilish holidays such as Halloween.
We read:
7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
I John 6:7
Since we are of the light, let’s stop living in darkness. Let’s celebrate God’s love and grace instead of celebrating Halloween and its dark observances.

10 Compelling Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Celebrate Halloween
How about the far greater number of people who’ve died in christian celebrations?
Which one?
There are numerous, as you might know.
This one for example: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-40940007
Why were these people killed by a tree while celebrating their religion? S
Hi Sven,
That’s sad. I pray for the bereaved family who have lost their loved ones from this tragic accident.
Sadly, what they actually celebrate is the Catholic Feast of the Assumption, which is something not commanded in the Bible. It’s a celebration about Mary going up to heaven, which is unbiblical.
Nevertheless, God will not forget them. His plan of salvation is to offer save mankind and in the future, people who live in ignorance will be resurrected and be given their chance.
Regards,
Joshua
