Pray for eyes of faith

We read in 2 Kings 6:16:

16 So he answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”

In life, there are times when what we see can weaken our faith. However, we are commanded to live by faith and not by sight.

Elisha’s servant saw the great Syrian armies, with their horses and chariots that could crush anyone in their path.

All reasons and logic would tell you that Elisha and the young man would perish that day. Through the physical eyes, it is certain that they are outnumbered.

Thus, for the young man, what Elisha said to him didn’t make sense. What do you mean by those who are with us are more than those who are against us? That’s the question that might have run through the servant’s mind.

Thankfully, Elisha prayed in 2 Kings 6:17:

17 And Elisha prayed, and said, “LORD, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” Then the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

We, too, can and should pray when we are plagued with so many problems. We can pray to God to help us live more by faith and less by sight. We can ask God that He may open our eyes to see His promises, blessings, mercy, and love in our lives.

No matter what problems we may go through, we can always count on God to reveal unto us His real purpose and will in our lives.

Yes, things might not make sense when we look around us. Nevertheless, things would make sense or will eventually make sense when we look up and look to God.
