📅 You wait for God – Daily Bible Reading

May 19, 2022

Today’s reading: Joshua 1:9

You must wait

We read in Joshua 4:1:

And it came to pass, when ALL the people had completely crossed over the Jordan, that the LORD spoke to Joshua…

Brethren, this is the PROMISED LAND!

All those waiting, all those suffering, all those dying, all those times of rebellion and obedience — all those things that happened for the last forty years have now come to this.

Everyone was now on the other side of the Jordan River.

This is the Promised Land.

If you are in the shoes of an Israelite at that time, you might have asked, “What now?”

We heard a lot of great things about the Promised Land, what should we do now?

You wait.

As humans, we might have thought, “We must not waste time. Let’s go ahead and conquer Jericho. They are afraid of us. Let’s take advantage of that!”

Well, God was never in a hurry.

Joshua first sent out spies and had to wait for three days to wait for their report.

Not only that, but when they finally reached Jericho, they had to wait another seven days marching around the city!

For some soldiers, they might have felt foolish, walking around the city.

However, the truth is that God wanted the Israelites to conquer themselves by preparing themselves for the battle.

God was showing the Israelites that the battle wasn’t theirs but God’s!

Waiting is such a powerful teacher, I tell you.

The most precious and powerful lessons I learned in my life come through waiting.

As painful as it may be, you just have to endure and even enjoy the waiting season in your life.

Because there’s something in waiting that you can’t learn from others.

So, don’t despise it.

You wait and let God do His work.
