📅 A Rehearsal – Daily Bible Reading

April 15, 2022

Today’s reading: Matthew 28:6

A rehearsal

We read in Leviticus 23:1-2:

1 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: ‘The feasts of the LORD, which you shall proclaim to be holy convocations, these are My feasts.

Leviticus 23 is a popular chapter for us in the congregation of Yahweh. We are familiar (hopefully) with God’s appointed times, their deep meaning, and significance for us and the entire human race.

However, for the purpose of this message, I want us to focus on one special word that always pops up in all the festivals of God. It is also mentioned in the weekly Sabbath.

Do you know what this word is?

It is convocation.

Now, this word is truly interesting. I did research on this word and it came from the Hebrew word Miqra (Pronounced as mik-raw).

Although miqra is usually translated as convocation in most bible translations, it can also be translated as a rehearsal.

Rehearsal simply means the act of practicing in preparation for an event. So, what is so significant with this understanding?

You see, the Sabbaths of Yahweh are rehearsals for the future events that would soon be happening on this earth. Rehearsals can also refer to how we repeat past events to remember the lessons we learn and to look forward to the hope of the human race.

Think about the Passover, it is actually a rehearsal of what Yahshua did thousands of years ago. The DUB is also a rehearsal of eating unleavened bread. Think about every single appointed time of God and you will soon see how we are rehearsing every time we observe them.

To better understand this, let’s use an analogy. Soldiers are habitually and regularly trained even if there’s no war. They have both the regular training on a weekly basis and those special training on a yearly basis.

They practice even if there’s no threat or no war. They practice because they need to be prepared at any time.

In the same way, we are like soldiers who practice every week during the Sabbath. We have a holy convocation or set-part rehearsals every week every time we keep the Sabbath.

However, for the Most High, that’s not enough. We also need to have special training every year and that is where the Festivals come in.

We may not know exactly when Yahshua will return, but the point in all of these is that we become prepared by having a set-apart rehearsal every week and every year.

I hope that gives us a better and much deeper understanding of the phrase holy convocation. That’s the reason attending Sabbath services is super important. Don’t underestimate the training or rehearsal we get when we keep the Sabbaths of the Almighty.
