📅 Who is your authority? – Daily Bible Reading

March 20, 2022

Today’s reading: Genesis 50:4-6

Who is your authority?

We read in Exodus 1:15-17:

15 Then the king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, of whom the name of one was Shiphrah and the name of the other Puah; 16 and he said, “When you do the duties of a midwife for the Hebrew women, and see them on the birthstools, if it is a son, then you shall kill him; but if it is a daughter, then she shall live.”

17 But the midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the male children alive.

The book of Exodus named the Hebrew midwives Shiphrah and Puah when they could have just remained anonymous. This tells us that their role in the Bible was so significant that they are even named in the Scripture.

Some suggest that the midwives lied to Pharaoh while others mentioned they told the truth. Whatever the case is, they were NOT rewarded for lying, but because they feared God and refused to murder innocent babies.

This teaches us one vital lesson.

When the law of the land is immoral and evil, we have the responsibility to disobey them.

Remember, we already have a King that we served, and that King is Yahshua (popularly known as Jesus Christ).

We also have a greater Authority that we submit to and that’s the Authority of Yahweh.

We must remember that our allegiance is to God and not to men.

Our final authority should not be people but God.
