The Surprising Most POPULAR “Book” Today

The Bible is known to be the best-seller book of all time. However, there is a kind of “book” today that is taking the whole world by storm. It has an active reader of over 1.5 BILLION people around the globe – a population greater than China! As a matter of fact, you might have already just read it a moment ago.

The book I am talking about is Facebook.

Facebook is the largest social media today. Almost everyone I know has Facebook, and chances are, you too has one. For some, it is almost automatic for them when they open their internet browser; they will log in to their Facebook account. Some would even just open their computer, laptop, or mobile devices for the purpose of checking their Facebook updates.

According to an article released by Business Insider, people inside the United States spend an average of about 40 minutes of their day on Facebook. On a global scale, people spend more than 20 minutes on this social media along with its sister websites.

The good and the bad

It is fascinating how much interest people show in using Facebook. This is basically because of the benefits they reap from using such social media. For one, Facebook is a great place to meet new people and reconnect with old friends. It is an excellent way to stay connected with loved ones and acquaintances. Facebook can even be used to preach the Word of God.

The use of Facebook has its negative side as well. I have written an article entitled, “The Surprising Problem with Opening Facebook First Thing In the Morning” and I listed the bad effects of this social media. While Facebook presents a lot of benefits to its users, it is important to note that it can potentially waste our time and even destroy a relationship.

Will you show the same interest in the Book of all books?

Joshua 1:8The Bible is considered to be the Book of all books. In it, we can find how to be blessed, happy, and live a productive life. Most importantly, the Bible shows us the road to eternal life. If there is one book that we should read and spend 40 minutes or more of our day, it should be the BIBLE!

However, we don’t see this happening. We rather want to entertain ourselves with all the glamor that Facebook has to offer.

Imagine if all people had the same interest with the Bible as they have with Facebook, this world would have been a better place to live in. If only people would open their Bible as often as they open their Facebook, we could see more loving, dedicated, and faithful Christians today.

The Bible holds the key to a more fulfilling life. Facebook does not offer us that key. I am not saying we must stop using Facebook altogether. What I am saying is that we must not let our Bible just sit around our home and collect dust. May we make reading the Bible a habit and not just whenever we feel reading it.

May we remember the words spoken of by God to Joshua:

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success” (Joshua 1:8).
