Top 20 Surprising Biblical Facts about Satan

The Bible mentioned a being that is out there to DESTROY mankind. His name is Satan, man’s greatest enemy. In order for us to defeat our enemy, we must know as much information as possible. So how much do you know about him? Is your knowledge today sufficient to stand against the evil strategies of Satan? For this reason, let me share with you 20 facts about Satan.

I’ve read many blogs about “facts” regarding Satan and I am frustrated how they twisted the truth. So for this reason, I have gathered information about Satan, not just from any sources, but straight from the very word of God, the Bible. So you can be sure that the facts I’ve listed here are accurate.

Fact no. 1: He EXISTS

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour” (I Peter 5:8).

Fact no. 2: He had real-life ENCOUNTER with Jesus Christ

“Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, being tempted for forty days by the devil. And in those days He ate nothing, and afterward, when they had ended, He was hungry” (Luke 4:2).

Fact no. 3: He can INFLUENCE people

“Then Satan entered Judas, surnamed Iscariot, who was numbered among the twelve. So he went his way and conferred with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray Him to them” (Luke 22:3-4).

Fact no. 4: Satan’s demons can POSSESS people

“When He had come to the other side, to the country of the Gergesenes, there met Him two demon-possessed men, coming out of the tombs, exceedingly fierce, so that no one could pass that way” (Matthew 8:28).

Compare with Matthew 17:14-18, Acts 19:14-16 and Luke 8:27-33.

Fact no. 5: The meaning of his name

The name of Satan reveals much of his character. Satan is a Hebrew noun meaning “adversary” – the enemy, antagonist, foe, and opponent. The verb forms of the noun mean to “accuse, be an adversary, and slander (Anchor Bible Dictionary, Vol. 5, 1992, “Satan,” p. 985).

Indeed, the Bible talks about Satan as the “accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night” (Revelation 12:10).

Fact no. 6: Satan is the FATHER OF LIES

“You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it” (John 8:44).

Fact no. 7: Satan is a MURDERER from the beginning

“You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it” (John 8:44).

Fact no. 8: Satan is the REAL POWER behind the throne of this world’s kingdoms

“Then the devil, taking Him up on a high mountain, showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said to Him, “All this authority I will give You, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish” (Luke 4:5-6).

Fact no. 9: Satan is the GOD OF THIS WORLD

“Whose minds the god of this world has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them” (II Corinthians 4:4).

“We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one” (I John 5:19).

Also, read Ephesians 2:2 and John 12:31; 14:30; 16:11.

Fact no. 10: Satan DECEIVES the whole world

So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him (Revelation 12:9).

Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.

Fact no. 11: Satan’s deception has DEEPLY INFILTRATED CHRISTIANITY

For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ… Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works” (II Corinthians 11:13, 15).

Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’” (Matthew 7:22-23).

Fact no. 12: Satan will flee from us when we draw near and submit to God

“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded” (James 4:7).

Fact no. 13: Satan held a HIGH POSITION before his rebellion

“You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; you were on the holy mountain of God; you walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones. You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, till iniquity was found in you” (Ezekiel 28: 14-15).

Fact no. 14: Satan REBELLED AND CHALLENGED God

“For you have said in your heart: ‘I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation on the farthest sides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High’” (Isaiah 14:13-14).

Fact no. 15: Satan influenced a third of the angels to rebel with him

“And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great, fiery red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems on his heads. His tail drew a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth…” (Revelation 12:3-4).

The Bible uses stars as a symbol for angels (Revelation 1:20).

Fact no. 16: Satan’s ministers can PERFORM MIRACLES

“The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders” (II Thessalonians 2:9).

Fact no. 17: Satan can appear as an ANGEL OF LIGHT

“And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works” (II Corinthians 11:14-15).

Fact no. 18: Satan will be BOUND for a thousand years

“Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a little while (Revelation 20:1-3).”

Fact no. 19: Satan’s LAST STAND is to gather as many people as possible to fight against God

“Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea. They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them” (Revelation 2:7-9).

Fact no. 20: Satan’s final destiny is to be cast into the lake of fire

The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.”

Final Words

Satan is real and he is bent on separating the whole of mankind from God. He may be allowed to rule this world for now, but time will come when God will ultimately step in and intervene in man’s affairs. May that DAY already come!
