What if being effective isn’t the same as being godly?

We often think success comes from developing good habits. Wake up early. Manage your time. Set goals. Exercise. Work hard. Build strong relationships.
These are valuable habits. But there’s a deeper question we sometimes overlook:
What are these habits doing to us spiritually?
You can be highly disciplined and still struggle with anger.
You can be extremely productive and have almost no prayer life.
You can be successful in your career and still be spiritually empty.
You can know a great deal about the Bible and still fail to demonstrate love, patience, humility, and obedience.
The Bible points us toward something deeper. Paul told Timothy to “exercise yourself toward godliness” (1 Timothy 4:7).
God wants us to develop habits that don’t simply improve what we accomplish. He wants habits that transform who we are.
That means Christian growth isn’t merely about doing more. It’s about becoming more like God in our thoughts, character, choices, and daily lives.
But what exactly are these godly habits, and how can we develop them?
