Let’s be real for a moment.
Some of the most dangerous sins aren’t the ones people see.
They’re the ones no one knows about—the sins you commit when the lights are off, when the doors are closed, when no one’s around.
And here’s the shocking truth: the Bible does talk about them.
We often think sin only matters when it hurts others or when it’s out in the open.
That’s a lie.
Yahshua made it crystal clear: “But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart” (Matthew 5:28, NKJV).
Notice that?
Lust doesn’t need an audience.
It doesn’t need an action.
It happens in the heart, and Yahweh sees it.
That’s the uncomfortable reality most people want to avoid.
Private sins feel harmless because no one else knows.
But they are like termites—silent, hidden, slowly eating away at the foundation of your faith.
They destroy intimacy with God, erode your conscience, and leave you spiritually numb.
Think about it: How often do we excuse ourselves by saying, “Well, at least I’m not hurting anyone else”?
That’s the devil’s favorite loophole.
He whispers, “It’s private. It’s harmless. No one has to know.”
But Yahweh does know.
Proverbs 15:3 says, “The eyes of the LORD are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good” (NKJV).
There’s no such thing as a hidden sin to Him.
And here’s where it gets even deeper.
Private sins are the breeding ground for public failures.
The man who cheats on his wife didn’t just suddenly fall.
The woman who betrays her values didn’t collapse overnight.
It started in the secret place—in the mind, in the heart, in the “private” sins they thought didn’t matter.
Friend, I’m not writing this to condemn you.
I’m writing this because I know what it’s like to wrestle with secret struggles.
The guilt.
The shame.
The cycle of “never again” only to fall right back in.
But Yahweh doesn’t want you trapped there. He calls us out not to shame us, but to set us free.
You see, sin thrives in secrecy but dies in the light.
That’s why confessing, repenting, and bringing these struggles before Yahweh is the first step to freedom.
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9, NKJV).
So, does the Bible talk about private sins?
Absolutely.
And it warns us to take them seriously, because what’s hidden in the dark today will one day be brought to light.
Call to Action
Now, one of the most common private sins Christians struggle with is masturbation. It’s something rarely talked about in churches, yet it’s destroying countless lives in silence. If you want to know what the Bible really says about it—and why it’s not as harmless as the world makes it seem—I encourage you to read my full blog: “What Does the Bible Say About Masturbation? (Why It’s a Sin).”
