Today’s reading: Proverbs 31:30
Charm is deceitful
We read in Proverbs 31:30:
30 Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing,
But a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised.
A lot of wrong decisions have been made simply because they were based on outward appearance. Charm is no doubt attractive. Beauty is no doubt impressive. However, those things should not be the main reason you choose someone to be with.
You see, no matter how beautiful you are, your outward appearance would pass away. When you marry someone simply because of how they look, you will surely be disappointed. The time will come when that reason will be gone.
Now, charm and beauty are two things we naturally desire as humans. They are actually not bad by themselves. They can be good if used for good.
The problem is that some people who possess charm and beauty can use these gifts to deceive others and even take advantage of them.
That’s why we must be careful. We must not simply look at the outside appearance.
Instead of simply looking at charm and beauty, what we must look for is a person who fears Yahweh. Not just a woman, but also a man who is committed to God.
After all, how can a person be committed to you if he/she isn’t committed to God?
The number one thing you should look for in a person is not her beauty. It’s not her looks. It’s not the shape of her body.
You should look at her character. You should look at her relationship with Yahweh. You should look into her priorities in life.
Remember, beauty is not forever, godly character is.
