Bringing every thought into captivity

We read in 2 Corinthians 10:4-6:

4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, 6 and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.

Thoughts are powerful. Almost all actions come from thoughts. When your thoughts are good, then your words and actions would be good. If your thoughts are evil, then your words and actions are evil.

Thoughts dictate who you are and what you do. That’s the reason Paul commands us to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.

Notice that it should be every thought, not some thoughts. We must not be selective, but we give it all to God. Whether it be thoughts of lust, ignorance, prejudice, pride, hate, or sadness, we must let God handle them for us.

Because we let God capture our thinking, we let Him as well to teach us what we should think about. We let God teach us what we must meditate upon and what fills our minds.

You might have heard other people tell you, “Free your mind.” Well, that’s for the world. For us Christians, we don’t free our minds. We let it be captive in the obedience of Christ.

When it says obedience, it means we let Yahshua show us the way and we don’t simply think of following Him. We actually couple our thoughts with action.

Our minds should be filled with the willingness to obey God.

Once we let God capture our thoughts, we will have the mighty spiritual weapons that can destroy the strongholds of satan.
