Healing power of words

We read in Proverbs 16:24:

24 Pleasant words are like a honeycomb,
Sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.

Research shows that edifying words truly can heal people. They can also keep us healthier. With the right words, people can recover from trauma, overcome mental distress, lower blood pressure, improve blood circulation, and lower stress hormones.

It doesn’t take a whole research team to tell us that positive words can truly improve our health. It has a dramatic impact on our thoughts and actions.

That’s why we must not underestimate the power of words. We may not know it but we have already been destroying one another with our words.

Instead of bringing down people, we must build them with our words.

In the ancient world, honey was the sweetest substance one can find. Pleasant words can be sweet as honey. We remember how Jonathan’s face brightened up after eating honey.

Words can have the same effect. Our words can brighten other people’s faces. It can even be the light that they needed during a dark day.

Choose carefully the words that come out of your mouth. We must consciously and intentionally improve how we speak. Communication is a tool for human connection.

When used properly, our words can heal other people and not just them, but also us.

So, does your word heal or destroy others?
