Today’s reading: 1 Corinthians 15:51-55

Do you want to live forever?

We read in 1 Corinthians 15:51-55:

51 Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed— 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”

55 “O Death, where is your sting?
O Hades, where is your victory?”

As human beings, most of us fear death. Most of us would do everything within our power to avoid dying and keep on living. Thus, we have heard about fables and stories about the fountain of youth and the elixir of longevity.

Ever since people have wished to live long and even become immortal. We have seen how medical science has made great strides and has actually prolonged human life. However, that’s the best that we can do. We can only prolong life, but not make it permanent.

Paul tells us that humans can’t attain immortality on their own. True eternal life comes from God.

When the last and seventh trumpet is blown in the last days, the dead and alive in Christ will rise up. Their bodies are raised into immortality.

In a twinkling of the eye, our bodies would instantly be changed. From corruptible to incorruptible, our frail, sickly, and weak bodies would become spiritual bodies.

Oh, what a glorious day that would be when we are no longer affected by diseases, injuries, and maladies. How beautiful would that day be when we finally become spiritual beings and reign with the Messiah!
