The benefits of serving God
We read in Psalms 103:1-5:
1 Bless the LORD, O my soul;
And all that is within me, bless His holy name!2 Bless the LORD, O my soul,
And forget not all His benefits:3 Who forgives all your iniquities,
Who heals all your diseases,4 Who redeems your life from destruction,
Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,5 Who satisfies your mouth with good things,
So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
There’s no denying that when we follow God and His Son, we are bound to suffer for our beliefs. People will persecute us. Sometimes, we become outcasts. People will think of us as weird and as a cult. On top of that, we limit our opportunities because we put God first in our lives.
While it is true that we may suffer for what we believe in, we must not forget the benefits of living a godly life.
In Psalm 103, David instructs us not to forget, but instead, remember the benefits that Yahweh bestows upon us.
David tells us among the benefits of serving God includes having our sins forgiven, our diseases healed, and our life redeemed from destruction. We also enjoy God’s loving kindness and tender mercies.
Not only that, but God satisfies us with good things and our strength is renewed.
As you can see, the benefits greatly outweigh the suffering we may need to endure. Even just one of these benefits is enough for us to say, “It’s all worth it.”
If you simply stop and think of it, the benefits of God are too wonderful for us to comprehend. Can you imagine having your sins forgiven and avoiding the penalty of eternal death? Can you imagine getting healed of your sickness? Can you imagine your life being saved from destruction? Can you just imagine how blessed we are as recipients of God’s love, kindness, and mercies?
Yes, life as a follower of Christ can be difficult, but we should not forget about the benefits. When we stop focusing on the suffering and start focusing on God, we receive renewed strength and faith.
