Today’s reading: John 5:5-6

Do you want to get healed?

We read in John 5:5-6:

Now a certain man was there who had an infirmity thirty-eight years. 6 When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, “Do you want to be made well?”

It’s quite astonishing why would Yahshua ask this man if he wanted to get healed.

Of course, everyone wants to get healed, right?

However, you may want to get healed, but do you REALLY want to get healed?

Sometimes, we might say that we want to be healed, but we don’t actually do the necessary things we must do to get healed.

A person may wish he wanted to get healed of his arthritis. The doctor told him to lose weight. Yet, he doesn’t follow that advice.

A person may be suffering from high blood pressure. The doctor advised him to avoid salty food and keep a healthy lifestyle. Yet, that person doesn’t follow the advice.

A person may be suffering from chronic fatigue. The advice was for him to get rest and not abuse his body. Yet, that person doesn’t follow the advice.

Do you now see the difference between a person who wanted to get healed and a person who REALLY wanted to get healed?

In John 5, the man had an infirmity for 38 years. That’s a very long time if you ask me. It seems that the man could have the opportunity to get healed, but wasn’t able to get healed.

(By the way, the angel that stirred the pool of Bethesda, from what I have read, it just a legend and was part of superstitious belief. John 5:4 was said to be not part of the original text.)

So, the question of Christ was logical and valid.

When you ask for healing, Christ is also asking you:

“Do you want to be made well?”

If you say yes, then you also need to do your part.
