Today’s reading: 2 Samuel 20:1

The importance of keeping your promise

We read in 2 Samuel 21:1:

1 Now there was a famine in the days of David for three years, year after year; and David inquired of the LORD. And the LORD answered, “It is because of Saul and his bloodthirsty house, because he killed the Gibeonites.”

The three-year drought in the land of Israel prompted David to inquire of Yahweh. As a response, the Almighty revealed that the drought happened because of Saul and how he killed the Gibeonites.

It’s quite astonishing how the promise made to the Gibeonites centuries ago was still binding up to the time of Saul and David.

This tells us that even time can’t eliminate the promises we made.

God holds us accountable for the promises we make.

What’s important to note here is that if God is so particular in us keeping our promise, how much more God would also keep His promises to us?

Thus, this teaches us that keeping promises is important and for this same reason, we can also count on God’s promises.
