📅 Are you keeping your vow? – Daily Bible Reading

April 29, 2022

Today’s reading: Numbers 30:2

Making a vow

We read in Numbers 30:2:

2 If a man makes a vow to the LORD, or swears an oath to bind himself by some agreement, he shall not break his word; he shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth.

Making a vow to the Eternal should not be taken lightly. Yahweh commanded the Israelites to be careful in making vows, promises, and oaths. If ever they make a vow, they must fulfill it.

Sadly, a lot of people don’t seriously keep their words. They make promises but never fulfill them. While some people have gotten used to broken promises, for God it is a sin.

In Matthew 5:37, we read the words of the Messiah:

37 But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.

We need to live a life of integrity. It should define who we are. When people think about us, they think of a person who keeps his/her words.

It’s sad when no one takes you seriously anymore because of the many words you haven’t kept.

If we are to become true believers of the Almighty, we should and must keep our words.

It is better not to make vows than make a vow and then break it.
