Today’s reading: Luke 14:28-30

Crossing the Red Sea

We read in Exodus 14:13-14:

13 And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. 14 The LORD will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.”

Perhaps, if you think of a miracle in the Bible, crossing the Red Sea is probably part of the Top 10 most incredible biblical miracles.

Surely, the miraculous crossing of the Hebrew people through the Red Sea is remarkable, not just because of the miracle itself, but also the many lessons we can derive from it.

For one, we can see how stubbornness can lead us to a lot of trouble. We have seen this in the life of Pharaoh, that even the death of his son didn’t stop him from getting back the Israelites.

Two, the Israelites were fond of complaining. After witnessing so many incredible and amazing miracles, you would have thought that they already developed faith and trust in God. Yet, we see them constantly complaining.

In reality, complaining and murmuring are both as real today as they were in the time of Moses. In the future, there will be a great tribulation that will shake this world. Will we also forget the miracles God had wrought in our lives and complain when that time of testing comes? Or, will we become faithful and stay on the course?

Three, God is indeed a God of the impossible. What we thought is impossible to happen can easily be made possible by God. This should help strengthen our faith. When we face the “Red Seas” of our lives, we simply need to stand still and see the salvation of God!
