The Most Expensive Tweet: Will you pay $2.5m for it?

A recent news article I read from BBC talks about Jack Dorsey selling his first tweet to the public. If you don’t know yet, Jack Dorsey is the co-founder of the social media giant Twitter.

In the news article, “Jack Dorsey: Bids reach $2.5m for Twitter co-founder’s first post,” BBC wrote:

Jack Dorsey’s first tweet.

Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey has listed his first ever tweet for sale, with bids reaching $2.5m (£1.8m).

It will be sold as a non-fungible token (NFT) – a unique digital certificate that states who owns a photo, video or other form of online media.

But the post will remain publicly available on Twitter even after it has been auctioned off.

The buyer will receive a certificate, digitally signed and verified by Mr Dorsey, as well as the metadata of the original tweet. The data will include information such as the time the tweet was posted and its text contents.

Most of this information, however, is already publicly available.

And you know what that tweet is by Jack Dorsey? It says:

“Just setting up my twttr.”

It’s a tweet he published way back in March 2006.

If you look into the tweet, there’s nothing special about it.

In all honesty, I can even write the same tweet and even with the right spelling!

However, if I sell my tweet to other people, do you think they will pay millions for it?

Absolutely not!

People may even think I’m crazy for selling it.

So, what made Dorsey’s tweet valuable?

It’s because of the person who published it.

It was Jack Dorsey himself.

It belongs to the man who co-founded the platform.

You belong to God

Today, I want to remind you that you belong to God.

I believe all too often, we forget about the truth about our real value.

By ourselves, we are actually nothing.

But because we belong to God, we are valuable in many ways you and I can imagine.

Just like the tweet of Jack Dorsey, it is actually nothing but a bunch of letters and words. But since it belongs to Jack, its value rose to the millions!

Now, can you imagine how much of value you are just because you belong to God?

You are more valuable than the tweet of Jack Dorsey.

In fact, there’s no amount of money that can buy you — NOT even $2.5 million!

You are actually priceless simply because you belong to God.

Do you know how valuable you are? Here are just some of the verses to help you understand your value:

  • The Bible tells us that God so loved us that He gave us His only begotten Son (John 3:16).
  • He even loved us while we were still sinners (Romans 5:8).
  • God fearfully and wonderfully made us (Psalm 139:13-16).
  • God knows even the tiniest details of our life, even the number of our hair (Luke 12:7).
  • You are precious in God’s eyes (Isaiah 43:4).

With all these in mind, whenever you feel like other people are taking you for granted, they don’t value you, they don’t care about you, or they have left you —- remember that your value doesn’t come from them.

Your value comes from God.

Why?

Because you belong to Him.
