“In the Beginning”

“In the Beginning God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1).

The very first words of the Bible introduce us to the God of the universe, the Creator of all things, and the Author of life. Genesis 1:1 made a momentous and remarkable statement. It tells us that the universe and all its grandeur was made by God. He is the possessor of all things and the supreme Ruler.

The Bible claims that we are created by God, and we are not a mere cosmic accident. We are the very product of God’s creativity and ingenious and at the same time a product of His love. God’s incredible power is beyond our comprehension. His majesty and magnificence are evident from the smallest molecule that our most powerful microscope could see to the incomprehensible vastness of the universe.

Knowing the very fact that we have a Creator means that we will be held accountable to a Higher Authority. We will one day stand before the judgment seat of our God and give account to all the things that we have done while we are still living.

The very introduction of the first book of the Bible, Genesis, should grab our attention. If the Bible isn’t true, then we have nothing to discuss here. But IF the Bible’s claim is true, then we need to carefully consider how we ought to live this life.

Man may try hard to explain away everything that we are just a bunch of flesh walking here on earth, here today and gone tomorrow. We might live a pointless and meaningless life, but that DOESN’T change the fact that we have a God and that same God wants to develop a close relationship with us.

There is a reason, a purpose, a plan, that we are all here on earth and Genesis 1:1 is just the beginning.
