The 5 Shocking Truths about the Trinity Your Pastor Does not Tell You

The Trinity is among the most popularly revered and believed doctrines in modern Christianity. In fact, most church leaders would not consider you as a Christian if you don’t believe in the Trinity. As popular this doctrine as it may seem, you need to know the other side of the story. There are dark secrets that lie within at the very heart of this doctrine.

In this post, let me share with you some of the important truths that you need to know. I must warn you; you probably have not heard of these truths before, and so, you might have a hard time believing it. Nevertheless, they are the truth. Read on!

Truth no. 1: The term ‘Trinity’ is not in the Bible

Use a concordance or better yet, use a search function in your electronic Bible. You will never find the term Trinity. Now, you SHOULD wonder why such a major doctrine in Christendom is missing in the pages of the Holy Scripture!

Here’s what you need to know. The word Trinity was first used by Tertullian at the close of the 2nd century. However, it was only widely used only in the fourth and fifth centuries. This leads us to the next truth.

Truth no. 2: The Trinity is a young formalized Christian doctrine

The Trinity doctrine is a result of the failed attempts of explaining the very nature of God. To solve this problem once and for all, the Roman Emperor Constantine called for the Council of Nicaea in A.D. 325. It is worth noting that a pagan emperor, devoid of understanding about the Christian teachings, presided the council.

The Trinity was formalized centuries after the Bible was completed and the original Apostles were long dead. Now, think about this: if the Trinity doctrine is truly important, then why didn’t the Apostles even bothered to teach or explain it?

Truth no. 3: The Trinity concept has been around long before Christianity

It might be shocking, but the idea of divine beings existing as triads or trinities are old and recycled pagan ideas. Here are some examples:

  • Sumeria – the universe were thought to be divided into three regions. Each of these regions is dominated by a god. Anu’s for the sky; Enlil for the earth; and Ea for the waters.
  • Babylonia – their composite god is formed with three heads. They use the equilateral triangle to represent their mythological gods – the same equilateral triangle used today to represent the Trinity doctrine.
  • Egypt – the Egyptian mythology reveres three chief gods; Amun, Re, and Ptah.
  • Greece – Aristotle is quoted to say, “All things are three, and thrice is all: and let us use this number in the worship of the gods… and these compose the number of the Trinity.”
  • India – according to their Puranas, the Hindu Bible, there are three major gods; Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. Here’s a quote from their Puranas: “there is no real distinction between us. What to you appears such is only the semblance. The single being appears under three forms by the acts of creation, preservation, and destruction, but he is one”.

Truth no. 4: The Trinity doctrine is impossible to explain

Have you tried to explain the Trinity doctrine? It means that there are three gods and these gods co-exist as a single entity. Can you grasp its mysterious meaning? Can you really use a scriptural verse to explain the Trinity? Here are some of the explanations of the theologians:

  • Q. Tozer, a religious writer, wrote in his book The Knowledge of the Holy, explains that the Trinity is an “incomprehensible mystery” and understanding it is “forever futile” (1961, pp. 17-18).
  • “It is admitted by all who thoughtfully deal with this subject that the Scripture revelation here leads us into the presence of a DEEP MYSTERY; and that all human attempts at expression are of necessity imperfect” (The New Unger’s Bible Dictionary, 1988, p. 1308).
  • “My conclusion, then, about the doctrine of the Trinity is that it is an artificial construct. . . It produces confusion rather than clarification; and while the problems with which it deals are real ones, the solutions it offers are not illuminating. It has posed for many Christians dark and mysterious statements, which are ultimately MEANINGLESS, because it does not sufficiently discriminate in its use of terms” (The Doctrine of The Trinity, 1958, pp. 148-149).

These are just some of the admission of Trinity theologians about their new found doctrine. Is it really impossible to understand the nature of God? Is God so out of touch with us that He won’t reveal Himself? Thankfully, the answer is NO. The Bible tells us, “And this is eternal life, THAT THEY MAY KNOW YOU, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent” (John 17:3). This passage tells us that our eternal life lies in our ability to know God and Christ.

So if someone says that it is unnecessary to understand the nature of God, don’t let that person fool you. The Bible reveals God and Jesus Christ, and you don’t have to vainly understand the Trinity doctrine to know Them.

Truth no. 5: The Holy Spirit is not a god being

The Trinity doctrine heavily lies on the teaching that the Holy Spirit is part of the God family. If you cannot prove the persona of the Holy Spirit, then the whole Trinity doctrine will fall apart. However, we can see in the scripture that the Holy Spirit is referred to as the POWER of God and not a god itself.

Here are a quick way to debunk the idea of the Holy Spirit as a god.

  • If the Holy Spirit is a god, then why Christ didn’t called it His Father? After all, we read, “Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 1:18). Instead, we see Christ consistently refer to God as His Father and not the Holy Spirit.
  • If the Holy Spirit is a god, then why Paul didn’t include it in the salutations of His epistles. This would be a GREAT insult to the Holy Spirit, and it would even be considered blasphemy. However, we read in his salutations that there is no mention of the Holy Spirit. Please read: Romans 1:7; I Corinthians 1:3; II Corinthians 1:2; Galatians 1:3; Ephesians 1:2; Colossians 1:2; and so on and so forth.
  • The Holy Spirit is consistently described as the power of God. Read: Zechariah 4:6; Micah 3:8; II Timothy 1:7; Acts 1:8; Luke 1:35; Luke 4:14; Romans 15:19.
  • The Holy Spirit is called as a gift (Acts 10:45), can be quenched (I Thessalonians 5:19), shared or distributed (Hebrews 6:4), poured down (Acts 2:17, 33), described as wind and fire (Acts 2:2-3), and described as a down payment (II Corinthians 5:5). All these described the Holy Spirit but not as a god being. Surely, these descriptions can’t be applied to a real god being.
  • The Holy Spirit is missing in all visions. Read: Acts 7:55-56, Daniel 7:9-14, and Revelation 4-5, 21.

Final words

Don’t believe that anything with a “Christian” label is really from the Bible and a revealed truth from God. The Trinity doctrine is of pagan origin, unbiblical, and human tradition. It obscures the true nature of God the Father and Jesus Christ. It also clouds our mind to God’s real plan of salvation. God plans to expand His family and to include us in that family. It is not about limiting His family to only three beings.

Therefore, search and study the Bible. Don’t let human traditions replace the truth found in your Bible.

  1. My understanding, if I may share: >>>>Jesus did not call the Holy Spirit his Father, because She is his Mother. Yes, the Holy Spirit is the Female God. Take notice that ALL descriptions of the HS are consistent depiction of the feminine quality.

  2. I thought it was Catholics who speak about the Trinity?.. I always thought of Him as The Godhead.. Father-Son- and Holy Spirit- these three are one.. 1 John 5:7- Matthew 28:19-20.. Thank you for the info 🙂

  3. Hello Brother Joshua, you explained very well the Trinity idea. Keep up Gods work, may he bless you and Protect you and all the fellow readers. With so many false teachers, doctrines and what I call “Christian entertainment” unbiblical church music, many people are deceived. Fellow Christians: please study your bible before you come into any assumption that is influence by human ideas, which are primitive at best. I would personally recommend the 1560 Geneva Bible. God Bless you Reader

  5. God is most definitely a Trinity. Matthew 28:19 teaches that the name (singular) encompasses the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

    • Hi Marc!

      Thanks for your comment.

It’s sad to note that Matthew 28:19 has been tampered with to support the Trinity doctrine.

In all the records of the Bible, it is only Matthew 28:19 that mentions the Holy Spirit. Notice Acts 2:38; 8:16; 9:18 (and Acts 22:16); Acts 10:48; 16:15, 33; 19:5; 18:8; Colossians 2:12.

The Bible is consistent about how to baptize people. It should be done in the name of the Father and of the Son. It is only Matthew 28:19 who mentions the Holy Spirit. And even if it is correctly rendered here, it doesn’t support Trinity concept since the Holy Spirit, as the power of the Father and the Son, is involved in the process of baptism. When you are baptized, you receive the Holy Spirit.

This is rather a long topic, Marc. I highly recommend you read this amazing article: http://www.biblicaltruths.com/has-the-bible-been-tampered-to-support-a-certain-doctrine/

It tells you how Matthew 28 has been tampered.

      I hope this helps.

      Regards,
      Joshua

      • Hello Joshua,
Eusebius also quoted from the longer version several times so he knew it existed. In addition:
Can you name one manuscript that we have of Matthew 28:19 that reads any differently than what I have previously cited? – because I know of none.
Another point worth mentioning is that all the early versions such as the Latin, Syriac, and Ethiopic contain this reading – and they all predate Eusebius.

This attempt to eradicate the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit is simply a way for those who deny the Triune God to pretend the truth that it teaches doesn’t exist.

      • Hi Marc!

        Thanks for your reply.

Is it possible if you can show me the quote you are referring to about Eusebius? Because according to the book, “Textual Criticism of the New Testament” by F. C. Conybeare, it says:

It is clear… that the [Matthew] MSS [manuscripts] which Eusebius inherited from his predecessor, Pamphilus, at Caesarea in Palestine … [has] no mention either of Baptism or of ‘the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.’

Eusebius cites this text again and again in his works written between 300 and 336 … in his long commentaries… and in his Demonstratio Evangelica… after a moderate search in these works of Eusebius, [author] found eighteen citations of Matthew xxviii. 19, and always in the following form: “Go ye and make disciples of all the nations in my name, teaching them to observe all things, whatsoever I commanded you.”

I hope you read the article I gave you earlier before you made a comment. The article explained very well how Matthew 28:19 was tampered with.

Because of the attempt to destroy all sacred writings, a lot of the original copies were destroyed.

From the article I was referring to:

Taking advantage of the fact that most of the ancient scrolls and manuscripts were confiscated and publicly burned, the attempt by some to tamper with any existing sacred writings and to reproduce them (uncontested) became much easier. However, Eusebius himself claims that he [through God’s help?] was somehow able to take possession of an early copy of Matthew’s Gospel. In it, he clearly observed that it did not have the triune baptismal formula; while others began to propagate a new version with a triune baptismal formula very much later.

I highly recommend you read the article,Marc.

Now, please, nowhere in the Bible can you prove the trinity doctrine, Marc. If you do a little research regarding the history of trinity, you will quickly note that the first century Christians never taught it. It only become a popular teaching when Constantine made Christianity legal and syncretism crept in the church.

      • Sir, i read the article that you listed concerning Matthew 28:19 being tampered with. Sadly i read no actual proof that this verse was actually tampered with only a considerable amount of speculation at best. It. Is fascinating to me how much effort in this article and that you have put in to discredit one simple verse. It seems to me that since so much effort was put into disproving this verse that there must be some actual truth to it. Also you have mentioned before in your argument against the trinity that Paul does not refer to the Holy Spirit in any of his salutations. Paul not referring to Him in his salutations does not mean that the Holy Spirit is not God. Frankly that is a very weak and fruitless argument. Also, Paul does refer to the Holy Spirit in his final greetings in 1 Corinthians.(1 Cor 13:14. I know that is only one scripture so I’m sure that has probably been tampered with as well right?

  6. I have read the article. Other versions that pre-date Eusebius contain the triadic formula. I know of no Greek manuscript that has this passage where it reads any differently than we see in most Bible today.

In terms of your “truths” listed:
    1. Just because the particular word “Trinity” is not found in the Bible doesn’t mean it is to be rejected. The name isn’t there but the teaching most definitely is. Words like “monotheism” and “omniscient” in description of God aren’t specifically found in the Bible, but the Bible does teach both.
    2. The belief in the Trinity took place way before Constantine.
    3. Christianity has 1 God in 3 Persons. No pagan deities resemble this at all.
    4. I can’t fully explain how God always existed. Everything I see around me had a beginning and yet the Bible teaches that God had no beginning. I can’t fully explain it, but I believe it because that is what the Bile teaches. The same thing with the Trinity. I can’t fully explain it, but that is what the Bible teaches.
    5. The Holy Spirit is a Person in that He identifies Himself as “Me” in Acts 13:2. He also has a mind (Romans 8:27) – an omniscient mind (1 Corinthians 2:10). He also has emotions (Ephesians 4:30) and a will (1 Corinthians 12:11).

    • Hi Marc,

That’s good that you have read it. Again, most original writings were destroyed. So, it won’t be a surprise you won’t find it. Eusebius found a copy that contains the correct rendering of Matthew 28:19.

      1. Though trinity is not found in the Bible, you won’t also found scriptures that support it. Unlike the words you mentioned.

      2. Of course the trinity doctrine existed way before Constantine because the pagans already believe in it.

      3. Again, how can you teach trinity that says God is 3 in one when you read a lot of scriptures that Jesus is a separated entity from the Father.

      4. Trinity can’t be fully explained because its teaching is false. If you try to explain it, you will fail because you can’t find it in the bible.

      5. The bible sometimes use personification. Since the HS is the extension of God the Father as His power, Acts 13:2 does not contradict the teaching that trinity is false. HS has ominscient mind, it has emotions, and it has a will – all these are personifications.

      • Josh, a good example of your point is the way Proverbs speaks of “wisdom,” which is likened to a woman and referred to as a she. Does that mean that wisdom is a person or a goddess? Of course not. Similarly, Israel and Judah are likened to sisters and prostitutes. A full reading of the bible shows that personification statements are common among concepts that aren’t actual personas. I hope this helps to further illustrate your point to those struggling to grasp it. God bless you!

  7. Hi Joshua,

I can say that Jesus is separated from the Father but still believe the Lord Jesus is God because Jesus isn’t the Father.
That is a whole lot of “personifications” for the Holy Spirit! I believe God intended the many times He has shown us that the Holy Spirit is a Person that He is indeed a Person.

Just so I understand what you believe can you please tell me if you believe the Lord Jesus is God.

    Thank you.

  8. You don’t read your Bible you only want to keep your blog running that’s why you write this rubbish. Jesus says in John 14:10,11 “the father in me”. Trinity like rapture is not found in the Bible, but the concept is there. From the account of creation, the great commission, the story of Steven’s death, the baptism of Jesus. Check your Bible bro

  9. You may not see the word trinity in the bible. You may not see or read from the scriptures which directly stated that the Holy Spirit is a person or God. But we can establish this by knowing how the bible describes the Holy Spirit. First, we can clearly establish that the Holy Spirit is a person, not just a power or a mystical force. You can read this in John 14:26, 16:13 and Romans 8:26. If you will notice the gender pronoun he, him and himself were used several times to describe the Holy Spirit. You may say that these are some of the mistranslations in the bible from greek words to english words. But you can also read from the bible the most important identification of the Holy Spirit, when Jesus said that the Holy Spirit shall testify about Him in John 15:26. And in 1John 5:7, it says that there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word and the Holy Spirit and these three are one. The word “record” here is “martureó” (Strong’s G3140) which means bear witness, testify, bear record, witness or be a witness. During their time in ancient Israel, not everyone can be a witness. According to Talmud, in the third chapter of Sanhedrin, delineates the rules governing who may provide written or oral testimony. A valid witness in a Jewish Beit Din must be an adult (see Bar Mitzvah) free man, not a woman or a slave, and not be related to any of the other witnesses or judges. If a woman cannot be a witness even so a power or a mystical force. It is clear when Jesus said “he will testify about Me” the Holy Spirit is qualified to be a witness, the holy spirit is a person. If you believe in Jesus or Yashua, you will accept His words.
With regards to the Holy Spirit being God? The bible did not directly stated that the Holy Spirit is God but we can know this by knowing his qualities.
We can say that the Holy Spirit is “omnipresent”. The Holy Spirit can be with you and anybody else around the world at the same time.
He is also “omniscient”. In 1 Cor 2:10-11, it says that the Holy Spirit searches even the depths of God or the fullness of God. What God knows, the Holy Spirit knows.
He is also “omnipotent”. Jesus or Yashua performed the miracles through the power of the Holy Spirit (Matt 12:28). And in Rom 8:11, Jesus was raised from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit.
He is also “eternal” as we read in Heb 9:14.
He is also “immutable”. I believe the fruit of the Holy Spirit before are the same today and will be the same tomorrow.
All of these characteristics are the same with God the Father and the son Jesus. All three share the same characteristics of deity.
Not everyone can understand and accept this as what Paul said in 1 Cor 2:14. Only the person who has the Holy Spirit can comprehend to this truth from the bible. Only the person who has the Holy Spirit can know the one true Yahweh and will know that even satan obeys God.

    • Yes, you’re right, those are mistranslations from Greek to English. 1John 5:7 is a blatant error as well. Thus, you won’t find it in NKJV and other modern translations.

The reason you’re seeing the HS acts like a person is because of personification. The HS is God’s power and act as an extension of His Being. So, it should not be surprising to see how the HS is seemingly described as a person.

      • So you mean that KJV bible is not also reliable because it contradicts your doctrine? Also, you are saying that Jesus is a liar when he said that the holy spirit will testify about him since the holy spirit is not a person, he is not qualifiedto be a witness.

      • HI BhelaiM,

The KJV isn’t a perfect translation. In fact, there’s no perfect translation. The only perfect version is God’s original version of the Scripture.

The HS is God’s power. When Yahshua said that the HS testifies about Him, He is saying that God the Father Himself will testify about Him.

      • I don’t think that’s what Jesus meant. if the Holy Spirit is just purely representative of the Father and does not have his own identity, Jesus would not named him separately together with the Father in Matthew 28. That would be a redundant statement. Jesus did not mention to be baptized in the name of the Father through the Holy Spirit but he mention the Holy Spirit as a different person from the Father.

      • Hi BhelaiM,

You might be shocked by Matthew 28 is actually a mistranslation. Don’t you wonder that in the Bible, it is only Matthew 28:19 states the father, son, and HS formula in baptizing? In other parts of the Bible, it’s only God the Father and Yahshua? For a full explanation, please go here under the heading: Does Matthew 28:19 Support the Trinity Doctrine?
