Why Study the Bible?

It is not enough to just read the Bible. Yes, that’s important, but you need to set aside time for not just reading, but actually studying the Word of God. It is through studying that we get a deeper understanding of what God really wants from us, His people.

So, the big question we want to answer in today’s blog is this, “How to Study the Bible?” If you want to become a highly effective Christian, you’ve got to know how to study God’s word.

While millions of people are reading the Bible, it is undeniable that not all have the ability to comprehend it. Needless to say, the Bible is not just the most widely read book in the world, but it is also the most misunderstood. You see, it is not enough to use human intellect to truly grasp the deep meaning of the Bible. You need God’s guidance through His Holy Spirit to do so!

Remember, the Word of God is like a sword. Like a master swordsman, you need to master how to handle God’s word. The more skilled you are in handling God’s word, the more effective you’ll become. 

Some people have a hard time understanding the Bible so they give up trying and think that it is beyond comprehension. Perhaps, you are one of them and you want to know more about the Bible.

1. Pray for God’s inspiration and guidance

Before you even open your Bible and study it, you need to pray for understanding and this understanding MUST come from God. Bear in mind that God is the author of the Bible and if there’s only one Being who can explain it to us, it is God.

What’s amazing about the Bible is that it is the only book that allows you to talk to its Author directly — anytime, anywhere! Have you ever thought of that before? Other authors would simply let you read their book, but you can never talk to them instantly or any time you want. So, don’t ignore this one unique attribute of the Bible. Pray to God for inspiration. He is more than willing to give you the understanding that you need.

Never commit the mistake of thinking that you can understand the Bible on your own. You need God’s divine guidance and revelation.

Therefore, before delving into the text, you need to acknowledge that the wisdom, truth, and insights contained within its pages originate from God Himself. This acknowledgment sets the stage for a posture of humility and receptivity, recognizing that the words of scripture are not merely human ideas but divine revelation.

2. Be humble in learning God’s word
