On January 19, 2022, Forbes magazine published a list of the top 25 most generous givers in the United States. These 25 people have given a combined wealth of $169 billion dollars. That’s 9.6 trillion pesos when converted to our local currency. That’s almost half of the GDP of the Philippines in 2020.

On top of the list is Warren Buffett who has a lifetime giving of $46.1 billion. Next are Bill Gates & Melinda Gates, who gave away $33.4 billion during their lifetime. In the third spot is George Soros, who gave away $18.1 billion. However, not part of this list is Jamsetji Tata who has donated more than $102.4 billion of his wealth.

The numbers can be impressive. However, did you know that there is Someone who is more generous than any of these philanthropists? In fact, even if you combine all the wealth of these billionaires, they can’t beat what this Someone has given in the past, present, and future.

What’s more amazing about this Being is that He gives something more than just money. He gives things that no amount of money can buy. That’s why, this Someone is considered to be the Greatest Giver of all.

This Someone is no other than our Living God, the Most High, Yahweh, our Father.

Yes, He is the greatest and best Giver of all. Unlike other philanthropists, God doesn’t have an ulterior motive for giving. He gives because that’s His nature. Some people may give, but they may ask for something in return.

Now, there are just so many things that God has given us. They are too numerous to count. However, for the purpose of this message, I would like to share with you five things that God has given us.

1. God gives us understanding

We read in Ephesians 1:15-18:

15 Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, 16 do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened…

You and I might have not realized it but the understanding that we have is something you don’t learn from school. You don’t even hear this in the pulpit of mainstream Christianity. These are not the revelation of men, but of God.

What you learn here is something that no doctoral degree, master’s degree, or university degree can ever teach. Even the brightest minds on earth, the ones with the highest IQs, don’t know what we know.

Go to the top universities, UP, Harvard, or Yale, and ask any of their students and professors. Ask them what is the meaning of life, what is its purpose, why are we here, and where are we heading, it would be rare for you to get the correct answer.

2. God gives us peace

We read in John 14:27:

27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

In a world full of danger, war, and conflict, we can all have the peace that radiates not from ourselves, but from God.

Yahweh gives us peace through His Son, Yahshua. This type of peace is something you can’t find in this chaotic world.

When we have God’s peace, we can all lay down our heads at night and sleep soundly. We can go through life with peace in our hearts.

We don’t have to worry. We don’t have to be stressed. We don’t even have to buy guns or weapons to protect ourselves. We are secured and the peace of God will keep us.

3. God gives us grace

We read in 2 Corinthians 9:8:

8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.

What is grace? Grace is simply God’s unmerited favor. It reflects God’s endless love, tremendous mercy, and majestic benevolence.

Can you imagine if we don’t have the grace of God? We are all sinners. We have broken His commandments. We deserve nothing but death. Spiritually, we are all blind and hopeless.

Yet, all these changed because of God’s saving grace. Even though we are nothing, God made us into something. Even if we are sinners, God rescued us through the sacrifice of His Son.

Truly, God’s grace and favor are things that we can all be thankful for.

4. God gives us life

We read in Genesis 2:7:

7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

Brethren, you and I owe our lives to God. We are alive today, breathing, thinking, talking, and moving because of Yahweh who gave us life. You are not alive today if it weren’t because of God.

If a lifeguard saves you from drowning, wouldn’t you be thankful to that person and you may even give that person a reward? If that’s how we treat others who have saved us, wouldn’t we be more thankful to God for giving us life in the first place?

Ultimately, brethren, we read in the Word of Yahweh that He will not only give us physical life, but also eternal life.

Romans 6:23 tells us:

23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

God gave us His Son

We read in John 3:16, a popular bible verse:

16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

To redeem us from sin, to give us salvation, to rescue us from the death penalty, the Father gave us His beloved Son and has allowed Him to die for us. Isn’t this the greatest sacrifice a Father can do for all of us?

Learn to give

These are just some of the things that God has freely given us. If God has given all of these to us if God has given us understanding, peace, grace, life, and His Son, wouldn’t it be a small thing to give back to God through our offerings?

Just imagine brethren, you can’t put a price tag on the gifts of God. No matter how rich you are, you can’t afford God’s grace. You can’t afford God’s peace and His gift of understanding. Can you also create life with your money? Can you bribe God and give us His Son?

No, brethren, all these gifts are priceless. No amount of money can buy any of these gifts. However, we can all give back to God and contribute to His work. We can all say thank you for our life, for the peace we enjoy, for the grace we don’t deserve by our offering.

Truly, brethren, Yahweh is the greatest Giver of all and as servants of God, we are expected to learn from Him — to develop the same attitude and character of giving. We can all start doing that through our offering and sharing what we have with others.

I hope this helps us realize that God has given us more than enough, that He has given us everything that we need and through our offering, we can say thank you to Him.
