Artificial intelligence is advancing at a speed that would have seemed impossible just a few years ago.

AI can write, create images and videos, analyze enormous amounts of information, write computer code, conduct research, interact with people, operate tools, and increasingly perform tasks that once required human judgment.

But alongside the excitement is something else.

Fear.

What if AI becomes too powerful?

What if humans lose control?

What if artificial intelligence becomes capable of manipulating, deceiving, or even eliminating humanity?

These are no longer questions confined to science-fiction movies.

In September 2026, a Reuters/Ipsos poll found that 73% of Americans were concerned that AI companies were not doing enough to prevent potentially catastrophic consequences from artificial intelligence. More than half of those surveyed supported slowing AI development to improve safety.

Public concern is also growing elsewhere. A September 2026 YouGov survey in Britain found that 66% of Britons believed AI had the potential to end human civilization, while 34% regarded AI as one of the three most likely causes of human extinction.

And the concerns are not coming only from the general public.

On September 29, 2026, AI company Anthropic disclosed in its IPO filing that advanced AI could pose “catastrophic or existential risks to humanity,” including scenarios involving systems resisting shutdown, concealing information, or manipulating people.

The International AI Safety Report 2026 also discusses hypothetical “loss of control” scenarios in which advanced AI systems could operate outside human control. The report emphasizes, however, that experts disagree substantially about how likely such scenarios are and that current AI systems do not possess the capabilities required for such a loss of control.

So the fear is real.

But here is the question we should ask:

Is an AI apocalypse really how the story of humanity ends?

The Bible gives us a very different answer.

AI Could Become Extremely Powerful

We should not dismiss the legitimate concerns surrounding artificial intelligence.

AI can be incredibly useful. It can help people learn, conduct research, solve problems, discover new medicines, improve productivity, and accomplish things that were previously difficult or impossible.

But powerful technology can also be misused.

AI could potentially be used for surveillance, manipulation, cyberattacks, fraud, misinformation, autonomous systems, and centralized control.

The International AI Safety Report notes that AI systems can already fail in unpredictable ways, produce false information, generate flawed code, and perform tasks with limited human intervention. The report also says that AI agents are becoming more capable of autonomous operation, although current systems still lack the capabilities required for the most extreme loss-of-control scenarios.

That means Christians should not be naïve.

We don’t need to believe every frightening prediction about AI, but neither should we assume that every technological development will automatically be used for good.

Technology is a tool.

And tools can be used for good or evil.

The more important question is:

Who controls the technology, and what do they intend to do with it?

That question becomes particularly interesting when we examine Bible prophecy.

Could AI Play a Role in End-Time Prophecy?

The Bible does not mention artificial intelligence.

It does not tell us that the Beast will use ChatGPT, robots, facial-recognition systems, algorithms, or any particular modern technology.

Therefore, we should be careful.

We should not look at every new technological development and immediately declare, “This is the fulfillment of Revelation!”

But there is something worth considering.

The Bible describes a future system with an extraordinary ability to exercise authority over humanity.

Revelation 13 describes the Beast exercising authority over people and requiring allegiance. It also describes a system in which people are prevented from buying or selling without a particular mark.

Think about what that implies.

For such a system to function on a global scale, there would need to be mechanisms for identifying people, monitoring participation, enforcing restrictions, and controlling access to economic activity.

The technology available today is already making things that once seemed impossible increasingly practical.

Artificial intelligence can analyze enormous quantities of data.

Biometric systems can identify individuals.

Digital platforms can monitor behavior.

Algorithms can categorize people.

Automated systems can make decisions at extraordinary speed.

Digital payment systems can record transactions.

Surveillance technologies can track movements and activities.

None of this proves that these technologies are the fulfillment of Revelation 13.

But it does demonstrate something important:

The technological barriers to large-scale surveillance and control are becoming much lower.

Previous generations could read Revelation 13 and wonder how such a system could possibly identify and control people across the earth.

We live in a generation where the question no longer seems technologically impossible.

AI and the Possibility of Mass Surveillance

Imagine a government or institution with access to enormous amounts of information.

Names.

Faces.

Locations.

Purchases.

Messages.

Online activity.

Financial transactions.

Public statements.

Associations.

Biometric information.

Now imagine artificial intelligence analyzing all of that information far faster than human beings ever could.

That possibility should cause us to think carefully about the future.

AI could potentially make surveillance much more efficient because computers do not need to manually examine millions of pieces of information one at a time. AI systems can identify patterns, classify information, and flag particular behaviors.

That doesn’t mean this will necessarily become the mechanism used by the Beast.

Scripture doesn’t tell us.

But it does show why Christians should pay attention to technological developments without becoming obsessed with them.

Technology can change dramatically.

Bible prophecy does not.

The important thing is not to predict the exact technology.

The important thing is to understand what God has revealed.

Could AI Be Used to Identify Those Who Refuse the Beast?

This is another area where we need to distinguish between biblical revelation and speculation.

The Bible tells us that God’s people will face persecution.

It tells us that the Beast will exercise authority.

It tells us that people will be pressured to worship the Beast and receive his mark.

It tells us that economic consequences will accompany refusal to participate in the system.

But Scripture does not tell us precisely how people will be identified.

Perhaps future technology will play a role.

Perhaps AI will be involved.

Perhaps biometric identification will be involved.

Perhaps something entirely different will be developed that we cannot currently imagine.

We simply do not know.

Therefore, we should not make dogmatic claims where Scripture is silent.

But there is a larger point here.

Technology could potentially become an instrument of a future system of control.

And if that happens, the technology itself would not be the ultimate problem.

The problem would be the power using it.

Don’t Confuse the Tool With the Power Behind It

This distinction is extremely important.

AI is not the Beast.

A computer is not the Beast.

Facial recognition is not the Beast.

A digital currency is not automatically the mark of the Beast.

A surveillance camera is not the Beast.

These are technologies.

They can potentially be used by governments, corporations, organizations, individuals, or future political powers.

The Bible’s warning is not ultimately about machines.

It is about human rebellion against God and the rise of a system that demands allegiance that belongs to God alone.

Technology can make certain things easier.

But technology does not create the prophetic system.

Human beings do.

And behind the rebellion described in Scripture is a much deeper spiritual conflict.

That is why we should be careful when someone says:

“AI is the Beast!”

The Bible never says that.

A better statement would be:

“AI could potentially become one of many technologies used by future powers to exercise surveillance, control, or economic restrictions.”

That is a possibility worth discussing.

It is not something Scripture explicitly reveals.

There is a difference.

But What About the AI Apocalypse?

Now we come back to the fear that started this discussion.

What if AI becomes smarter than humanity?

What if AI becomes autonomous?

What if it decides that humans are a threat?

What if machines take control?

What if artificial intelligence causes human extinction?

These scenarios are being seriously discussed by AI researchers and safety experts. The International AI Safety Report describes loss-of-control scenarios as hypothetical possibilities whose likelihood remains highly uncertain.

Some experts consider extremely severe outcomes plausible, while others consider them unlikely. The report emphasizes that current AI systems do not yet have the capabilities necessary for the most extreme scenarios.

So Christians should neither laugh at every concern nor accept every prediction.

We can acknowledge the risk without turning speculation into prophecy.

But there is an even more important reason not to confuse AI doomsday scenarios with biblical prophecy.

The Bible already tells us how this age ends.

And it doesn’t end with artificial intelligence.

The World Will End Differently Than Many People Expect

The Bible does teach that the present age of human rule will come to an end.

But the event that brings it to an end is not an AI system escaping human control.

It is the return of the Messiah.

Yeshua the Messiah is coming again.

And His second coming will be very different from His first.

The first time, He came in humility.

He was born as a child.

He lived among ordinary people.

He preached the gospel of the Kingdom of God.

He suffered.

He was rejected.

He was crucified.

But the next time He comes, He will not come as a helpless baby in a manger.

He comes as King.

Revelation 19 portrays the returning Messiah as the conquering King who confronts the forces gathered against Him.

This is the biblical climax of human history.

Not an AI rebellion.

Not a robot uprising.

Not machines replacing humanity.

The King returns.

The End of Human Rule Is the Beginning of God’s Rule

Daniel gives us another remarkable picture of what lies ahead.

In Daniel 2, Nebuchadnezzar sees a great image representing successive human kingdoms.

These kingdoms rise.

They exercise power.

They eventually fall.

But then Daniel describes something completely different.

He says:

“And in the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed.”
Daniel 2:44, NKJV

That is the future Scripture points toward.

Human governments are temporary.

Human empires are temporary.

Human systems are temporary.

Human technology is temporary.

Artificial intelligence is temporary.

But the Kingdom of God is not temporary.

God’s Kingdom will not be another technological experiment.

It will not be another political ideology.

It will not be another human attempt to create utopia.

It will be the rule of God over the earth.

Revelation 11:15 gives us a glimpse of this future:

“The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!”

This is the event we should ultimately be watching for.

Humanity Cannot Save Itself Through Technology

There is something fascinating about the AI revolution.

Humanity is attempting to create increasingly powerful tools that can help us solve problems.

And perhaps AI will accomplish extraordinary things.

But there is a problem technology cannot solve.

The human heart.

Technology can give us more information.

It cannot automatically give us wisdom.

Technology can increase our power.

It cannot automatically give us righteousness.

Technology can connect billions of people.

It cannot make people love one another.

Technology can monitor behavior.

It cannot make people obey God from the heart.

Technology can potentially extend human capabilities.

It cannot give humanity the Kingdom of God.

We sometimes act as though the right technology will finally solve the human condition.

But the Bible presents a different diagnosis.

Our greatest problem is not that humanity lacks sufficiently advanced technology.

Our greatest problem is that humanity has rejected God’s rule.

And that is why the solution is not merely technological.

The solution is the Kingdom of God.

The Real Question Isn’t “Will AI Destroy Humanity?”

Perhaps this is where we need to change the question.

Instead of spending all our time asking:

“Will AI destroy humanity?”

we should also ask:

“What does God say will happen to humanity?”

The Bible’s answer is remarkably clear.

Human kingdoms will not last forever.

The Beast’s system will not last forever.

The world’s political powers will not last forever.

Satan’s influence will not last forever.

Evil will not last forever.

And human rebellion will not last forever.

The Messiah will return.

He will confront the powers that oppose God.

He will establish His Kingdom.

And God’s purpose for the earth and humanity will ultimately be fulfilled.

That is the story Christians should understand.

Should Christians Be Afraid of AI?

We should be cautious.

We should be discerning.

We should understand what AI can do and what it cannot do.

We should recognize the dangers of surveillance, manipulation, misinformation, cybercrime, autonomous systems, and centralized technological power.

We should encourage responsible development and wise safeguards.

But we should not live in terror.

Why?

Because our confidence does not ultimately rest in humanity’s ability to control technology.

Our confidence rests in God.

Jesus Christ said:

“And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened.”
Matthew 24:22, NKJV

Even when Scripture describes a future period of unprecedented trouble, God remains in control.

The Beast does not win.

Human rebellion does not win.

Technology does not win.

Satan does not win.

God wins.

Don’t Let AI Fear Distract You From God’s Kingdom

There is a strange irony in the modern fear surrounding artificial intelligence.

People are asking whether humanity will survive the technology it creates.

The Bible asks us to look beyond humanity’s technology altogether.

Our future is not ultimately determined by artificial intelligence.

It is determined by the Creator.

The world is not moving toward a machine apocalypse.

According to Bible prophecy, it is moving toward the return of the King.

And that changes how we should view the future.

We don’t need to ignore technological developments.

We don’t need to pretend that AI cannot cause serious problems.

We don’t need to dismiss legitimate concerns about what powerful technologies could do in the hands of irresponsible people or authoritarian systems.

But neither should we allow fear to consume us.

The Bible gives us something better than speculation.

It gives us hope.

The King Is Coming

Perhaps the greatest mistake we can make when thinking about the future is to focus so much on what humanity might create that we forget what God has promised to create.

AI may become more powerful.

Governments may become more powerful.

Surveillance may become more sophisticated.

Economic systems may become increasingly interconnected.

The world may experience frightening developments.

But none of these things changes the ultimate outcome revealed in Scripture.

Yeshua the Messiah is coming again.

Not as a baby in a manger.

Not in weakness.

Not to be rejected.

He is coming as King.

The kingdoms of this world will ultimately give way to the Kingdom of God.

And when that happens, humanity’s long experiment with ruling the earth apart from its Creator will finally come to an end.

So don’t spend all your time asking whether artificial intelligence will destroy the world.

Ask a much more important question:

Are you ready for the King who is coming to rule it?

That is the future the Bible tells us to watch for.
