This takes five minutes—and it can change the way you experience God in prayer.
If prayer has ever felt distant…
If your words run out…
Or if you’ve quietly wondered whether God is really near—this is for you.
You are not failing.
You are not broken.
And you are not alone.
Many sincere believers struggle with prayer, not because they don’t love God, but because they were never shown how to connect with Him beyond routine words.
Do you want to learn more about prayer? If yes, I warmly invite you to join my online course, “How to Pray.” It’s an in-depth study that goes deep into what really makes a prayer effective, straight from the Bible. You can start for free today!
Why Prayer Feels So Hard Sometimes
Most of us were taught that prayer is mainly about talking—presenting requests, reciting phrases, or trying to say the right thing.
But some of the most powerful moments in prayer happen when we stop talking… and start listening.
Not because God suddenly shows up.
But because we finally slow down enough to notice that He’s already there.
Prayer isn’t about impressing God.
It’s about becoming aware of Him.
A Simple 5-Minute Prayer Exercise
Here is one gentle, powerful practice you can do anywhere—no special words, no long time commitment.
I call it:
Listening Prayer with Journaling
This exercise is not about forcing answers or hearing voices. It’s about opening space for God’s presence and allowing your heart to settle before Him.
Step-by-Step Guide
1. Pause and Breathe
Take a slow breath.
Relax your shoulders.
Quiet your mind as best you can.
2. Begin with a Simple Prayer
Instead of starting with requests, say:
“God, I’m here. I want to be aware of You.”
That’s it.
No pressure.
No perfect wording.
Just presence.
3. Sit in Silence for One Minute
Let yourself be still.
If your mind wanders, that’s okay.
Gently bring it back.
4. Ask One Question
Then quietly ask:
“God, what do You want me to know right now?”
Don’t force an answer.
Don’t analyze.
Just notice what comes to mind—a thought, a phrase, a scripture, a sense of peace.
5. Write It Down
Journal whatever you noticed.
Even if it feels small.
Even if it feels incomplete.
The goal isn’t perfection.
It’s awareness.
Why This Works
This simple exercise shifts prayer from performance to presence.
You’re no longer trying to impress God with words.
You’re creating space to be with Him.
Over time, this trains your heart to recognize God’s nearness—not just in prayer, but throughout your day.
Prayer stops feeling like a task.
It becomes a relationship.
A Gentle Encouragement
If prayer has felt dry or one-sided, this is a soft way to reconnect—without pressure, guilt, or striving.
Five minutes.
One question.
An open heart.
That’s all it takes to begin again.
