Let’s be honest.
We’ve all done it.
We open our Bibles, skim through a few verses, maybe even read a whole chapter, close the book, and… nothing.
No conviction.
No inspiration.
No transformation.
Just check marks in our reading plan.

But deep down, you know this:
The Bible is not just a book. It’s the living, breathing Word of God.
And if that’s true (and it is), why do so many Christians read it as if they’re reading a textbook or an instruction manual?
Here’s the hard truth:
You can read the Bible daily and still miss God.
That’s why I want to gently, but urgently, tell you this:
Don’t Start Reading Your Bible Until You’ve Asked Yourself THIS:
“Am I willing to obey what God shows me today?”
Not what I hope to learn.
Not what I want to be reassured of.
Not even what I think I already know.
But what He shows me. Right now. Today.
The Real Question Behind the Reading
The Pharisees knew Scripture. Memorized it. Taught it. Quoted it.
And yet, Jesus said something terrifying to them:
“You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.”
— John 5:39–40, NKJV
Let that sink in.
They searched the Scriptures… and still missed the Savior.
Why?
Because their hearts weren’t surrendered.
They wanted knowledge, not transformation.
Control, not obedience.
And if we’re not careful, we can fall into the same trap.
Reading the Bible without a surrendered heart is like looking into a mirror and refusing to acknowledge your reflection.
Obedience is the Gateway to Revelation
Do you want to experience the Bible like never before?
Do you want those pages to come alive… to speak to your soul… to give you goosebumps… to bring tears to your eyes?
It won’t happen by speed-reading.
It won’t happen by routine.
It happens through surrender.
“If anyone wills to do His will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God…”
— John 7:17, NKJV
Read that again: If you are willing to do His will, THEN you’ll understand.
Obedience opens your eyes.
Surrender unlocks the depth.
You can’t approach the Bible like a critic dissecting a script.
You have to come like a servant awaiting instructions.
What Happens When You Ask the Right Question
When you sit down with your Bible and ask,
“Am I ready to obey whatever You show me?”,
something powerful happens.
You posture your heart.
You invite conviction.
You welcome correction.
You embrace change.
You stop being just a reader of the Word… and you become a doer of the Word.
And that changes everything.
“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”
— James 1:22, NKJV

Bible Reading Isn’t Just a Habit — It’s a Holy Encounter
This isn’t about legalism.
This is about love.
You don’t read the Bible to impress God. You read it to meet with Him.
You don’t read to gain brownie points. You read to hear His voice.
You don’t read to finish a checklist. You read to be transformed.
Imagine a soldier receiving orders from his commanding officer… and walking away saying, “Nice words,” but doing nothing.
Ridiculous, right?
But don’t we sometimes do the same?
Let’s not treat God’s Word as just good advice.
It’s God’s voice.
His will.
His heart.
His breath.
His very presence on a page.
What If We All Asked This One Question First?
Imagine if every believer—before opening their Bible—paused and prayed:
“Father, before I read, help me to obey. Whatever You show me, I’ll do it. No excuses. No delays.”
How different would our churches look?
How different would we look?
We’d stop reading for information and start reading for transformation.
We wouldn’t just know more about God…
We’d become more like Him.
Are you ready to obey?
Friend, you don’t have to be perfect.
You just have to be willing.
Willing to follow.
Willing to change.
Willing to obey.
Because when you open your Bible with a surrendered heart, God won’t just inform you—
He’ll transform you.
So next time you’re about to read His Word, stop and ask yourself:
“Am I truly ready to obey what He will show me today?”
Because that—not reading plans, not highlighters, not devotionals—
is where the journey with Yahweh truly begins.
