For centuries, the pope has been regarded by millions as the supreme leader of the Christian world—the Vicar of Christ, the Holy Father, the visible head of the Church on earth. But here’s the pressing question: Is the role of the pope truly biblical?
When we examine Scripture, we find that many of the pope’s titles and claimed authorities raise serious concerns. Yahshua the Messiah Himself taught in Matthew 23:9, “Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven.” Yet the pope is often called Holy Father—a title that belongs to Yahweh alone.
The idea of one man acting as the representative of Christ (Vicar of Christ), possessing infallible authority (Ex Cathedra), and serving as the bridge between God and man (Pontifex Maximus) finds no support in the Bible. In fact, 1 Timothy 2:5 says plainly, “For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Yahshua.”
