5 Morning Habits That Bring You Closer to God

Did you know that your mornings can dramatically improve your spiritual life? Yes, that’s right. It depends on how you actually spend them. That’s why, I want to share with you 5 incredible morning habits that will help you build a closer and more intimate relationship with your Heavenly Father!

Let me ask you something personal…

How do you start your day?

Is it with a groggy scroll through your phone? Maybe a mad dash to beat traffic or a quick cup of coffee with little time to breathe?

You’re not alone.

But what if I told you there’s a better way to wake up—one that doesn’t just fuel your body but revives your spirit?

The truth is, how you start your morning shapes everything. Your mindset. Your attitude. Your relationship with God.

You see, mornings aren’t just a time to get ready for work. They’re sacred. Precious. They’re a gift—an open invitation from the Creator to begin again.

Let me walk you through 5 powerful morning habits that can draw you closer to God—habits that can change your day… and maybe your life.

1. Start With Surrender

Before you even roll out of bed—pause. Don’t reach for your phone. Don’t check notifications.

Instead, whisper this simple but profound prayer:

“Father, this day is Yours. Use me. Lead me. I surrender.”

Why is this powerful? Because surrender realigns your heart with His will before the chaos of the day begins.

It reminds your soul who’s in charge. Not your to-do list. Not your boss. Not your bank account.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”Proverbs 3:5-6, NKJV

When you surrender your day to Yahweh, you invite Him to walk with you, guide you, and strengthen you. And there’s no better way to start your morning.

2. Open His Word Before the World

Let’s be honest—Instagram, emails, and breaking news can wait.

But the Word of God? That’s your lifeline.

Before you scroll through the world’s noise, soak in the stillness of His voice.

Even if it’s just one chapter, or a single verse that pierces your heart—let it speak.

Let it cut through the fog and bring clarity.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”Psalm 119:105, NKJV

Don’t overcomplicate it. You don’t need an hour-long theological study.

Sometimes it’s the small, consistent bites that feed your spirit the most.

If you’re rushed, play an audio Bible while getting ready. Let God’s truth be the first thing your heart digests.

3. Talk to God Like He’s Right There (Because He Is)

Prayer doesn’t need to be poetic. It needs to be real.

Some mornings, my prayers sound like this:

“God, I’m tired. I don’t know how I’m going to get through today. But I know You’re with me.”

Raw. Honest. Vulnerable.

That’s what God wants.

“The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth.”Psalm 145:18, NKJV

Don’t just recite prayers—connect.

Tell Him what’s bothering you.

Thank Him for waking you up.

Ask Him for strength to love like Yahshua. Ask for wisdom. Ask for peace.

He’s not looking for perfect words. He’s looking for a present heart.

4. Worship—Even If It’s Just One Song

This one might surprise you.

Worship isn’t something reserved for church services or the choir.

Worship is a weapon. It’s a balm. It’s a beautiful exchange.

Just one song. That’s all it takes.

Turn on a worship track while you’re brushing your teeth or making breakfast.

Let the lyrics flood your spirit. Let the melodies lift your eyes from the temporal to the eternal.

“Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.”Psalm 100:4, NKJV

Praise shifts the atmosphere. It silences anxiety.

It prepares your heart for battle. Because let’s face it—the enemy’s waiting the moment your feet hit the floor.

But so is Yahweh’s presence… and worship invites Him in.

5. Set One God-Given Intention for the Day

Before your schedule takes over, ask this:
“God, what do You want from me today?”

Maybe it’s patience with your spouse. Maybe it’s encouraging a co-worker. Maybe it’s resisting temptation in that one area you keep battling.

Set a God-centered intention for your day—one small act of obedience that brings glory to Him.

When your day has divine purpose, the mundane becomes meaningful.

Even the simple stuff—changing diapers, replying to emails, cooking dinner—can be holy when done for Him.

“And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus…”Colossians 3:17, NKJV

Develop Godly Habits Today!

Friend, you don’t need to move mountains to grow closer to God.

You just need to move your heart.

Every morning.

Don’t underestimate the power of small habits rooted in faith.

They build intimacy.

They build trust.

They build relationship.

Yahweh isn’t far away.

He’s right there.

Waiting for you at sunrise.

So tomorrow, when the alarm rings…

Choose surrender.
Choose the Word.
Choose connection.
Choose praise.
Choose purpose.

And most of all—choose Him.
