They Said I’d Never Be Free… But Jesus Broke My Chains Anyway!

Have you ever felt trapped?

Like you’re shackled to something so heavy that no matter how hard you pull, no matter how much you fight, you just can’t break free?

Maybe it’s an addiction.

Maybe it’s crippling fear.

Maybe it’s a toxic relationship, guilt from your past, or a cycle of sin you swore you’d never return to—but here you are, stuck in the same place, feeling like freedom is for other people, not for you.

I get it.

I’ve been there.

And I know what it’s like to hear the whispers: You’ll never change. You’ll always be like this. You’ll never be free.

But let me tell you something: They were wrong.

Because Jesus broke my chains anyway.

And He can break yours, too.

The Lies That Keep Us Bound

The enemy is a liar.

He wants you to believe that you’re beyond saving, that your past defines you, that you’re too weak to change.

And sometimes, he doesn’t even have to say anything—your own experiences scream it loud enough:

  • “You’ve tried before, and you failed.”
  • “God won’t forgive someone like you.”
  • “This is just who you are. Accept it.”
  • “You deserve to be stuck.”

But here’s what Jesus says:

“Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” (John 8:36, NKJV)

Did you catch that? Free indeed.

Not halfway free.

Not “kind of better.”

But truly, completely, unshakably free.

The Power of Jesus to Break Every Chain

When Jesus (Yahshua) walked this earth, He didn’t just talk about freedom—He demonstrated it.

  • He touched lepers and made them clean.
  • He spoke to the demon-possessed, and they were set free.
  • He called the dead, and they walked out of their graves.

And when He went to the cross, He took every chain with Him.

Your addiction? Nailed to the cross. Your shame? Nailed to the cross. Your regrets? Nailed to the cross.

When He rose from the dead, He didn’t just conquer death—He conquered everything that has ever held you captive.

“Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.” (Colossians 2:15, NKJV)

Jesus disarmed the enemy. That means Satan has no real power over you. The only chains he can use are the ones you let him keep.

How to Walk in the Freedom Jesus Offers

Maybe you’re thinking, “That sounds great, but how do I actually experience this freedom?”

1. Believe That Jesus Can Set You Free

Faith is the key that unlocks the prison doors. If you believe that you’re doomed to stay the same, you will. But if you believe that Jesus is stronger than whatever binds you, you open the door for Him to work in your life.

“Jesus said to him, ‘If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.’” (Mark 9:23, NKJV)

2. Call on His Name

Chains don’t break by willpower. They break by Yahshua’s power. And the good news? He’s just a prayer away.

“Whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13, NKJV)

You don’t need fancy words. Just an honest cry from your heart: Jesus, I need You! I can’t do this alone. Set me free!

3. Fill Yourself with Truth

The enemy keeps people in chains by filling their minds with lies.

The only way to break free is to fill your mind with truth.

Read God’s Word.

Meditate on His promises.

Speak them over your life:

  • I am a new creation in Christ. (2 Corinthians 5:17)
  • I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. (Philippians 4:13)
  • I am more than a conqueror. (Romans 8:37)

4. Surround Yourself with People Who Will Fight for You

Freedom is often found in community.

Get around people who will remind you of who you are in Christ, who will pray for you, encourage you, and hold you accountable.

The right people can help you walk in the freedom Jesus died to give you.

“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6:2, NKJV)

5. Take a Step of Faith

Sometimes, the prison door is already open—you just have to step out.

If Jesus has set you free, start living like it.

Leave that toxic relationship.

Pour out the alcohol.

Throw away whatever keeps pulling you back.

Take the first step toward healing, even if it’s scary.

“Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.” (Galatians 5:16, NKJV)

Jesus Is Calling You to Freedom

Listen, I don’t know what chains you’re carrying. But I do know this: Jesus didn’t die for you to stay bound. He died to set you free.

And when the Son sets you free, you are free indeed.

So, are you ready?

Are you ready to throw off the chains? Are you ready to step into the life Yahweh has for you?

Because the prison door is open.

It’s time to walk out.
