Brethren, here we are, standing at the threshold of a brand-new year.
The Gregorian calendar has turned its page, and we find ourselves in 2025.
Just a few days ago, the world celebrated this transition.
Fireworks lit up the skies, people cheered, and countless individuals made the infamous promise: the New Year’s Resolution.
Why do we make them?
Because deep inside, we yearn for change.
The new year feels like a blank slate—a fresh start, a time to aim higher and dream bigger.
People resolve to save more money, lose weight, quit harmful habits, spend more time with family, and the list goes on.
I’ve done it too.
Maybe you have as well.
But here’s the hard truth: most of us fail.
Can you guess how many people keep their resolutions by year’s end? Just 9%. That means 91% fall short.
What’s worse, nearly a quarter quit by the end of the first week, and almost half abandon their goals by the end of January.
In fact, the second Friday of January has become known as “Quitter’s Day.”
Now, let me be clear—I’m not here to discourage you from making resolutions.
Instead, I want to focus on the heart of what resolutions aim to achieve: change.
We all desire change.
We want to grow, improve, and become better versions of ourselves.
But let’s be honest—change is hard.
It’s inconvenient.
It’s uncomfortable.
Sometimes, it’s downright painful.
And yet, the Bible calls us to it.
Yahweh, our loving Creator, invites us—no, commands us—to transform our lives.
Today, I want to explore this vital topic with you: why we must change, how we can change, and what the Bible teaches us about true transformation.
Two Paths: Conforming or Transforming
Life is constantly changing.
Seasons shift.
Babies grow into adults.
Our plans evolve.
Even the world around us—politics, technology, culture—changes at lightning speed.
Change is inevitable.
The question isn’t if we will change but how.
The Bible presents two possible ways to change. Let’s look at Romans 12:2:
“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…”
Did you catch that? Two paths. We can either conform to the world or be transformed by God.
Conforming: The Easy, Dangerous Path
Conforming to the world is easy. It requires little effort.
But here’s the catch: it often leads to destruction.
Remember the time when the Worldwide Church of God abandoned foundational truths and adopted worldly doctrines?
That was the wrong kind of change.
It’s a sobering reminder of how easily we can drift away from the truth when we let the world shape us.
The same thing can happen in our personal lives.
Perhaps, when you first came to know Yahweh, you were on fire for Him.
You devoured His Word, spent hours in prayer, and passionately pursued His will.
But over time, that zeal faded.
You started spending less time with God and more time chasing the fleeting pleasures of this world.
This kind of change—the slow, subtle drift—leads to spiritual complacency.
It’s the Laodicean spirit, lukewarm and indifferent (Revelation 3:15-16).
And it’s dangerous.
Transforming: The Higher Calling
But there’s another path. Paul urges us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds.
The Greek word for “transformed” is metamorphoo, the root of our word “metamorphosis.”
Think of a caterpillar becoming a butterfly.
At first glance, a caterpillar seems destined to crawl in the dirt forever.
But through an extraordinary process, it emerges as a beautiful, soaring butterfly.
This is the kind of transformation God calls us to—a complete and radical change.
He doesn’t just want us to improve slightly. He wants us to become entirely new creations (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Where Does Transformation Begin?
Transformation begins in the mind.
Paul says, “…be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
Change doesn’t start with behavior. It starts with thought.
That’s why the enemy relentlessly targets our minds. He knows that if he can control your thoughts, he can control your life.
Step 1: Remove the Negative
Before we can fill our minds with good things, we must first remove the bad. Think about it—if your mind is cluttered with ungodly media, toxic emotions like bitterness and anger, and the lies of this world, there’s no room for God’s truth to take root.
Ephesians 4:31 reminds us to put away “bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking.” Let go of these weights that drag you down.
Step 2: Fill Your Mind with God’s Word
Once the bad is removed, we must replace it with the good. Fill your mind with God’s Word. Meditate on His promises. Surround yourself with godly influences.
Spend time with Yahweh. Let His Spirit work in you. After all, meaningful change is impossible without His help.
If you’re struggling to change, ask yourself: Am I spending enough time with God?
How often do we push aside prayer, Bible study, and meditation because we’re “too busy”?
Yet, the truth is, we can’t afford not to spend time with Him. When we do, we tap into His unlimited power.
Practical Steps to Transform Your Life
Brethren, transformation is a partnership between you and God. He supplies the strength, but you must take the steps. Let’s get practical:
- Identify the Areas Where You Need Change
Be honest with yourself. What’s holding you back? Is it impatience? Bitterness? Poor time management? Lack of discipline? Write it down. Pray about it. - Replace Harmful Habits with Godly Ones
Are you spending too much time on social media? Replace that time with Bible reading or prayer. Do you wake up and immediately reach for your phone? Change that habit—start your day by reaching for your Bible instead. - Guard Your Time and Priorities
Is your work consuming you? Have you been neglecting your family or your relationship with God? Reevaluate your priorities. Set boundaries and make time for what truly matters. - Focus on the Fruit of the Spirit
Galatians 5:22-23 reminds us of the qualities we should develop: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Let these traits guide your daily interactions. - Take Care of Your Body
Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Are you neglecting it? Make changes to eat healthily, exercise, and rest properly so you can serve God more effectively. - Commit Your Finances to God
Are you faithfully tithing? Are you spending wisely? Make changes to honor God with your finances. - Let Go of Past Hurts
Forgive those who have wronged you. Release bitterness. Holding on to these things only holds you back.
The Urgency of Change
Here’s the sobering truth: we don’t have forever to make these changes. Life is fleeting. James 4:14 reminds us that we are “a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.”
Brethren, don’t wait until it’s too late. The time for change is now. Today is the day to renew your commitment to God, to transform your life, and to become the person He created you to be.
Yes, change is hard. But it’s worth it.
As Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
With Yahweh’s help, transformation is not only possible—it’s inevitable.
So, will you change? Will you transform? Will you step into the abundant life Yahweh has planned for you?
The choice is yours.
Let’s make this year a year of true transformation.
Change or die.
Transform your life now.
