A way of escape
We read in 1 Corinthians 10:13:
13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
Temptation is constantly around us. Sometimes, they can be weak while there are times they can be too powerful.
That’s why we can sometimes doubt ourselves and ask questions that could lead to compromise.
What if we give in to temptation? What if the temptation is so great that we can’t handle it? What if we are left with the temptation that is stronger than our will to obey God?
Thus, Paul gave us an assurance that God doesn’t allow us to be tempted beyond our ability to handle temptation. This promise was anchored in God’s faithfulness.
Paul explained that we get tempted as other people get tempted. We might think that our temptation is unique and is, therefore, stronger than anyone else’s temptation. No, Paul was saying that our situation isn’t unique. The temptation we are experiencing is also experienced by other people.
Because of this, our focus isn’t on how our temptation is bigger than others. We are not to compare and ask why other people get a simpler trial than yours.
The focus should be on God’s faithfulness and the assurance that whatever you are going through right now, you can handle it. The bigger your problem is, the bigger God’s confidence in your ability to overcome the problem.
In every temptation, we must remember that God provides a way of escape. It means that God has already arranged things so that when temptation comes, you have the option to run away from it.
However, we must also remember that sometimes, the way of escape is for us to go through temptation. The way of escape is for us to bear it.
Thankfully, no matter what temptation we are going through right now or will be going through, God is faithful. He will always provide a way of escape so that we will be able to overcome!
