Today’s reading: Romans 12:2

Be transformed

We read in Romans 12:2:

2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

The whole world is deceived (Revelation 12:9). The Bible has constantly warned us not to be a friend of this world. The systems of this world, its thinking, habits, and rebellious attitude could prevent us from entering the Kingdom of God.

That’s why the Apostle Paul beseeched us to instead be transformed. What’s so interesting about this is that the word transformed here comes from the Greek word, “metamorphoō.”

This is where we got the word metamorphosis. It brings to mind the complete transformation of a butterfly. From a crawling caterpillar to a flying insect. The result of the transformation is that it is completely different. If you don’t know and you see a butterfly, you won’t believe that it came from a caterpillar.

That’s the kind of transformation that God wants us to have. It should be complete. We don’t simply transform one area of our lives and still continue in sin in another.

Aside from that, the Greek word metamorphoō is also the same word translated as “transfigured” in Mark 9:2:

2 Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John, and led them up on a high mountain apart by themselves; and He was transfigured before them.

Thus, there’s a divine and spiritual connection here. We are not to simply be transformed physically, but spiritually.

That’s the reason that for us to be transformed, Paul instructed us to renew our minds. Change comes from within. Change happens when we strive and do our best in thinking like Yahshua. When we develop the mind of Christ, that’s the time when we also transformed our lives.
