Today’s reading: Psalms 27:1

Whom shall I fear?

We read in Psalms 27:1:

1 The LORD is my light and my salvation;
Whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the strength of my life;
Of whom shall I be afraid?

Fear is among the most common and unpleasant emotions people feel. All of us have felt fear. Whether it is fear of the unknown or fear of death, we know how uncomfortable it is.

Fear can be so paralyzing that it can eventually kill us spiritually.

In Psalm 27:1, we see here three powerful reasons why we shouldn’t be afraid.

David said we must not be afraid because Yahweh is our light, salvation, and strength.

In a world filled with darkness, the Almighty serves as our light. He removes the darkness in our eyes, in our paths, and in our future. He enlightens us to understand His truth. Since we are called to be a light to the world, we must gain this light from God.

The ultimate goal of God for us is that we receive salvation. He wants to save us from our sins. He wants to give us eternal life and reign in His Kingdom. No matter what happens, we can stay courageous, knowing that God will surely see us through.

As physical human beings, no matter how strong you might be, your strength is limited. Your power, skills, and abilities are all limited. You can only do so much.

Thankfully, Yahweh is also the strength of our life. We don’t need to be afraid because He renews our strength. When we are weak, He serves as the Power we can always rely on.

With all these in mind, David asked the question, “Whom shall I fear?”

Answer: No one.

People might do terrible things against God. They may threaten us and try to harm or even kill us. They may plan our destruction, but as King David explained, these things should never make you afraid.

Have peace of mind. No need to worry. We can all count on God because He is our light, salvation, and strength.
