Today’s reading: John 6:26

Seeking God with the right heart

We read in John 6:26:

26 Jesus answered them and said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled.

It’s quite astonishing how people never changed. The attitude we see in Christ’s time was identical to what we see in the attitude of people today.

We read in John 6 were persistent in looking for Yahshua, which could be a good and noble thing to do. However, the problem was the attitude and motivation behind their actions.

Yahshua is the discerner of the heart. He can see through people and know what they want even if they don’t say it.

When Yahshua saw the people looking for Him, He knew how most of them simply wanted to be filled. They wanted an easier and more comfortable life.

After all, they just saw Yahshua feeding thousands of people. How can they resist the urge to make Yahshua their leader and make Him feed them forever?

We, too, can have the same problem.

We might be seeking God and His Son, Yahshua, with the wrong heart.

We might be just following Yahshua because the church gives us free stuff. We might be just following Yahshua for fame and glory, for the connection and riches, for the approval and respect of other people.

We need to step back and ask ourselves, “Why am I seeking Yahshua?”

Your answer will determine whether you are seeking Him with the right heart or not.
