Today’s reading: 2 Kings 9:32-37
God’s revenge on the wicked
We read in 2 Kings 9:32-37:
32 And he looked up at the window, and said, “Who is on my side? Who?” So two or three eunuchs looked out at him. 33 Then he said, “Throw her down.” So they threw her down, and some of her blood spattered on the wall and on the horses; and he trampled her underfoot… 35 So they went to bury her, but they found no more of her than the skull and the feet and the palms of her hands.
36 Therefore they came back and told him. And he said, “This is the word of the LORD, which He spoke by His servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, On the plot of ground at Jezreel dogs shall eat the flesh of Jezebel; 37 and the corpse of Jezebel shall be as refuse on the surface of the field, in the plot at Jezreel, so that they shall not say, “Here lies Jezebel.” ’ ”
We have now read the ultimate violent death of Jezebel. It’s quite interesting how God allowed Jezebel to live for too long. Actually, Ahab already died and it seems it took another decade for Jezebel to remain in power.
Jezebel was among the cruelest people we read in the Bible. We read that Ahab committed a lot of wickedness because of how Jezebel stirred him. Jezebel also killed many of God’s prophets. We read in Revelation 2:20 how Yahshua used Jezebel as a symbol of spiritual corruption.
The injustice of Jezebel’s actions has made a lot of people suffer. While we may think that she has got away with her wicked deeds, we know that God is the one who will take vengeance. It may not happen according to our timetable, but it will surely happen through God’s justice.
Until that time, we must endure unfairness, injustices, and wickedness. God is not blind to our suffering. He knows what we are going through. Justice will eventually prevail.
