📅 Tricking God – Daily Bible Reading

Today’s reading: 1 Kings 14:1-2

Tricking God

We read in 1 Kings 14:1-2:

1 At that time Abijah the son of Jeroboam became sick. 2 And Jeroboam said to his wife, “Please arise, and disguise yourself, that they may not recognize you as the wife of Jeroboam, and go to Shiloh. Indeed, Ahijah the prophet is there, who told me that I would be king over this people.

The wife of Jeroboam disguised herself and tried to trick Ahijah, the prophet of God. It’s astonishing how Jeroboam thought he could trick Ahijah, when he knew he was a prophet whom God can easily help to unveil his trickery.

Sometimes, we can also be like Jeroboam. We think that we can trick God. We go to Sabbath services, worship Him, do all kinds of good things, and give our offerings, and yet, our heart is actually far from Him.

We might be able to trick other people, but we can never trick God. We know that He can see our hearts and discern our thoughts. He perfectly knows the motives in every action we take.

Aside from that, we also see here that Jeroboam sought God when he needed something. Yes, it’s good to go to God when we need help, but the problem happens when we only remember Yahweh when we are in need.

Jeroboam knew that his false gods couldn’t help his sons. The gods whom he served will not and will never be able to bring healing. Thus, he now turned to the living God for healing.

Sadly, his sins had brought him far from God and now, he suffers the consequences of his actions.

We must be consistent with our walk with God. We can’t simply be part-time Christian. We must stay close to our Father in both times of smooth and rough sailing.
