Today’s reading: Leviticus 17
Way of Worship
When reading Leviticus 17 and even the previous chapters, we could see how detailed God is when it comes to how we should worship Him.
In chapter 17, we read how God requires the Israelites to bring their offering at the door of the Tabernacle of Meeting — not inside or far away. We also read the prohibition of drinking blood as what most pagans practice in Canaan.
As we can read over and over again, Yahweh has specific instructions on how we must worship Him.
This idea runs contrary to what our culture believes today. A lot of people take an individualistic approach.
This means that people would rather come to God on their own terms. They decide how to worship Him, where to worship Him, when to worship Him.
Too often we hear people saying, “I’m not a religious person, but I believe in God.”
“I pray every day and I don’t need to go to church.”
“I can worship God on any day and don’t need to keep the Sabbath.”
“I can keep pagan holidays as long as I do it for God.”
“I can eat whatever I want as long as I pray over it.”
I recently talked to a person online. He told me, he can decide which day is the seventh day by determining which day is his first day of the work week. Since he starts work on Monday, his seventh day is Sunday. That’s my Sabbath.
Do you see how so many people commit the mistake of playing their own gods?
People believe that they can say I love you God but don’t do His commands. They think they can say I have faith in God but I will choose how I will worship Him.
It’s time that we stop asking, “how I want to worship God” and start asking, “Father, how do you want me to worship You?”
