Today’s reading: Exodus 17:8-13

How to be a leader through teamwork and delegation

We read in Exodus 17:8-13:

8 Now Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim. 9 And Moses said to Joshua, “Choose us some men and go out, fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand.” 10 So Joshua did as Moses said to him, and fought with Amalek. And Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.

11 And so it was, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. 12 But Moses’ hands became heavy; so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. And Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.

13 So Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.

Moses is considered to be one of the greatest leaders in the Bible. Thus, we can learn a lot from his life about the true meaning of leadership and delegation.

In today’s reading, we see how Moses needed the help of Aaron and Hur during the battle between the Israelites and Amalekites.

This shows us that even leaders like Moses needed help. He is not simply to take on the whole burden of his position, but God allowed certain people to be there for him at the right time and in the right place to assist.

This is also true when we read about the advice of Jethro.

Delegation is an important aspect of leadership. It doesn’t just lighten up the load of Moses, but delegation actually empowers other people.

When you give people a job to do, a role to play, you are teaching them to become responsible.

You are also preparing them for greater roles.

Being a leader doesn’t mean that you take on all the tasks.

A good leader knows how to build a team and bring the whole team to a new level of success!
