What you should know from the government closing churches
The coronavirus disease is spreading fast.
It has put the world into a halt.
A lot of things have been affected.
Hundreds of thousands of people have been affected and many are dying by the day.
This has led to national lockdowns and community quarantines.
As a result, a lot of things have been canceled including sporting events, concerts, and other gatherings.
However, I think for us Christians, what had really affected us is our ability to hold religious assemblies.
A lot of churches have closed their doors and advised their members to stay at home.
However, here’s what you need to remember: the government can’t close a church because you know why?
Because we are the church.
If you read through the bible, you will see that the church never was used to refer to a building.
It was used to refer to people.
The word church came from the Greek word, Ekklesia which basically means a calling out.
It refers to a group or assembly of people who are called out by God.
Let me give you an example.
Let’s read Romans 16:3-5:
“Greet Priscilla and Aquila, my fellow workers in Christ Jesus, who risked their own necks for my life, to whom not only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles. Likewise greet the church that is in their house” (Romans 16:3-5).
It would be difficult to imagine the church that is in their house is a building.
It would be illogical for Paul to say, please great the building that is in the house of Priscilla and Aquila.
It can only mean logically as a group of people who are in the house.
That’s why the government may command that the church buildings may be closed for quarantine, it can’t command for the church to stop functioning.
Thankfully, even in the midst of quarantine and lockdown, we can still hold church services through the Internet.
Not only that, but the Bible says in Matthew 18:20, “For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”
The quarantine or lockdown does not mean that you should stop being part of God’s church.
You can still be the church by actively seeking God in your life.
Christ said in Matthew 16:18
“And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.”
God’s church will never be defeated.
It will continue on and it will survive because its Head is no other than Yahshua or Jesus Christ and we are its body.
A church is NOT a cold and lifeless concrete building, but rather it is a body of warm and living people who have dedicated their lives to God.
It is worth noting that if you are part of the true church, you have a mission to do.
You are not called in a social club just to warm your seat every Sabbath service.
Remember, church means a calling out.
You are called in the church to do something.
You need to be a doer rather than a spectator.
You need to be out there doing God’s work.
Strive to be a light of the world.
Preach the Gospel.
Most importantly, do your best in following God’s will in your life and fulfilling his will in your life.
So, stay strong.
God will never forsake the Church.
He will be there with the Church until the end.
