What Does the Bible Say About the Coronavirus (COVID-19)?

In this post, let us take a look at what the Bible says about the COVID-19 or Coronavirus. Most importantly, let us learn the lessons it teaches and how we should react to it.

Coronavirus 2019.

Wuhan Coronavirus.

COVID-19.

All these names are pointing out to one of the deadliest viral outbreaks in modern history.

Now, its spread throughout the world seems to be unstoppable.

It was in late December when a mysterious deadly flu started to make headlines.

At that time, not many people really knew how serious this new disease is.

Today, thousands of people are being infected and dying due to the virus.

With the modern transportation systems and connectivity, the virus is spreading at a neck-break pace.

What started in Wuhan, China has already reached tens of countries all over the world.

With its high virulence, millions of lives are affected both directly and indirectly.

Not only that, but the economic impact of COVID-19 is yet to be seen on the world’s second-largest economy and to the rest of the globe.

With this in mind, it is not difficult to see that a lot of people are looking for answers to where would all these head into.

Sadly, a lot of people are looking for answers in the wrong place.

If you want to find the sure and powerful answers, you need to turn to the very Word of God.

That’s why, in this blog, let us take a look at what the Bible says about the coronavirus and most importantly, how we, as Christians, should deal with it.

What does the Bible say about the Coronavirus Disease (Covid-19)

Diseases happen as a result of breaking God’s laws

Why do we have diseases in this world?

It’s because the spiritual and physical laws God has set in this universe are being violated.

When man breaks God’s laws, the penalty of that law breaks him.

That’s the same thing that we are seeing now.

We have the COVID-19 virus because man has broken God’s law.

But which law?

God’s Food Law.

A lot of people, even Christians, ignore the food law of God.

As a result, diseases have proliferated on a massive scale.

We hear a lot of new diseases that are unheard of hundreds of years ago.

Now, what is the relation of the COVID-19 with God’s food laws?

Here’s what:

The official report of the Chinese Government is that the virus originated in Wuhan Seafood Market.

Now, don’t let its name fool you because the food market sells more than just seafood.

In this market, you will see almost all kinds of exotic animals being sold.

You’ll see wolves, rats, snakes, koalas, bats, peacocks, foxes, dogs, cats, salamanders, and dozens more of animals we don’t even consider to eat.

Because of the unhygienic, crowded and poor condition the animals are in while waiting to be sold, the coronavirus mutated and eventually found its way to humans.

It is worth noting that the majority of animals being sold in the Wuhan market for food are prohibited in the Bible for human consumption!

In Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14, we read a list of animals that we can and we can’t eat and you’ll be surprised that most of the meat that people commonly eat is actually considered UNCLEAN by God!

Let me give you a list of some of the unclean food that we shouldn’t eat:

  • Pig
  • Shrimp
  • Crab
  • Camel
  • Rock hyrax
  • Fish with no fins and scales
  • Eagle
  • Vulture
  • Kite
  • Falcon
  • Raven
  • Ostrich
  • Owl
  • Mole
  • Mouse
  • Gecko
  • Chamelion
  • Dogs
  • Cats
  • Snakes

To help you better understand the difference between the clean and unclean food, please refer to this infographic that I found on the Beyond Today website.

Here’s another chart from the UCG website which serves as guide on how to identify clean and unclean meat:

After enumerating the things that we can eat and not eat, Yahweh explained why we must eat only what is allowed for us:

For I am Yahweh who brings you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God. You shall, therefore, be holy, for I am holy.

If you want to be holy, you need to follow the food law of God!

Part of being holy is not eating food that God considers as unclean and abominable.

To learn more about the food law of God, please read, “5 Compelling Reasons You Should Also Observe God’s Food Law.”

There’s a reason why those people who follow God’s food law has a longer lifespan.

For example, Israelis, who have faithfully follow God’s food law, are among the people who have the longest life expectancy in the world

Not only that, but Seventh Day Adventists, a group of people who also adhere to God’s food laws enjoy a lower risk of developing cancer compared to others.

Now, imagine if people in China follow God’s food law.

We won’t be having this problem anymore!

Coronavirus would have simply stayed with the animals and not have jumped to humans.

However, because the mind of man is naturally hostile against God’s law, I could guarantee you that this will not be the last disease outbreak we will have due to man’s disobedience.

The Chinese people will not learn their lesson and so do all the people who continually break God’s food law.

Coronavirus in Biblical Prophecy

Now, let’s take a look at where coronavirus might fit in Biblical prophecy.

Obviously, the word “coronavirus” doesn’t appear in the Bible, but its occurrence is already written in your Bible thousands of years ago!

In the Book of Revelation, we read of the Four Horsemen (Revelation 6:1-8).

For the purpose of this blog, let us focus on the Fourth Horseman.

We read in Revelation 6:7-8:

When He opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature saying, “Come and see.” So I looked, and behold, a pale horse. And the name of him who sat on it was Death, and Hades followed with him. And power was given to them over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword, with hunger, with death, and by the beasts of the earth.

What does this strange horseman represent?

No doubt, there’s a lot of symbolism here and it will take a lot of time to deeply explain them.

So, please take some time to watch this video about the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and learn its many lessons for us today:

For now, let me just break it down for you.

The first three horsemen represent religious deception, war, and famine respectively.

However, the fourth horseman represents pestilence, which means plagues and diseases.

Now, here’s the scary and chilling thing that you should take note:

By the time the fourth horseman completes its march, a fourth of the human population would have already been wiped out!

Currently, it is estimated that human population is around 7.7 billion.

What’s a fourth of 7.7 billion people?

That’s almost 2 billion people!

Can you imagine 2 billion people dying due to the march of the four horsemen?

Now, we are still not seeing this in the Coronavirus episode.

While thousands have already died, it doesn’t come close to what the Bible has prophecied.

Yahshua or Jesus Christ had also prophesied about this dark period in human history.

He said in Matthew 24:7:

For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places.

What’s more shocking about this statement of Christ is that “all these are the beginning of sorrows” (Matthew 24:8).

They are just a beginning.

So, is coronavirus part of the fourth horseman’s curse?

Coronavirus is just a preview and foretaste of the worse things that will happen in the future.

Here’s what you need to know.

If COVID-19 is already creating panic, weakening economies, killing thousands of people, you need to be more prepared for what’s going to happen.

We should expect that diseases exponentially WORSE than COVID-19 are coming.

They will not only affect a handful of countries, but they would become pandemics, killing multiple millions in a short span of time.

What are the lessons we can learn from the Coronavirus?

The Wuhan virus or COVID-19 should teach us lessons.

First of all, we need to realize that diseases happen because of sin.

Sadly, the consequences of the sin of others could still affect us even if it is not our sin.

After all, this world is subject to futility and is groaning constantly for the revealing of the children of God (Romans 8:18-25).

We might not have the power over how people behave, but we can certainly do something in our personal lives.

We can start living a healthy lifestyle and follow God’s food laws.

Though written thousands of years ago, the many benefits of God’s food laws are as real as it was before.

Next, diseases such as COVID-19 are a constant reminder of how we should stay close to God.

We might have doctors, scientists, and healthcare workers to help us, but our ultimate help will come from our Heavenly Father.

We need to put our faith in God’s divine protection.

Thus, we need to constantly pray for God’s favor and blessing that He may deliver us from sicknesses.

We also need to pray for the people who are being affected by COVID-19.

It’s hard to imagine how to live your life in a city where there’s a constant fear of getting infected by the deadly disease.

Thankfully, we can also put our hope to the sure promise of Christ’s second coming to usher in the Kingdom of His Father.

While we may suffer now and we see a lot of pain and chaos in this world, we can always turn to the final chapter of the Bible and read about the beautiful conclusion of human rule.

We read:

And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be NO more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.

Only time will tell what the future holds for the coronavirus disease.

But one thing is for sure, things would get worse until they become better.

No matter what may happen in this life, stay close to our heavenly Father, keep the faith, and make your election sure.

By doing so, you’ll be better prepared for the coming of our Savior Yahshua the Messiah (Jesus Christ)!

  1. May the Lord be with each and everyone on this earth. Believers or Not – May the Lord be with you all yet His Precious Blood surround us.

  2. The flu has been around for a very long time. Covid-19 doesn’t even come close to the flu in the amount of deaths. Calling it the “…one of the deadliest viral outbreak” is only fueling false histeria and makes us Christians look like fools.

We will see more of these new illnesses as a result of disobeying God, though.

    • Hi Bob,

Thanks for your comment. I think it is deadly because of its health and economic implication especially in our fragile chain of globalization.

I respect your opinion on this.

      Regards,
      Joshua

    • Last flu season killed just under 35,000 Americans, so far Covid 19 has killed over 80,000 Americans in just a few short months.

  3. God be with us all. and i was unaware of some of the foods, so i must ask his forgiveness and try my best to be a better christian. thank you for this blog and article i wish i had known more a lot earlier in life than i did.. prays for the lost , the sick and all of the world at this time. 4. about 5 months ago I began to not go out in big croweds and stay home and at parks with dog alone and eating just less meat hm why I don’t know and well its helped with this adjustment stay calm people we are Gods children

  5. Isnt China too overpopulated for them to be picky about food? Asking out of ignorance not confrontation.

    • Hi Bridget! In all due respect, I think that’s a lame excuse. God will not ask us to do something that is impossible to do. If we really want to follow God, we’ll find a way.

  6. This is not in line with The Word of God.
Please, read Peter’s Vision in Acts 10:9-16
and read the confirmation and deeper truth of this vision in Romans 14. Also make note of Romans 14:20 – 22.
    May you know Christ’s Grace.

  7. Hello. I do not quite understand why you think the mentioned previlence is the corona virus and especially the corona virus is the beginning? In history, there have been many many deseases influenza, cholera, spanish flu… and back then it wiped out way more people because of lack of knowledge, poor hygiene, no medication.
Wasn’t that already the beginning? Why do you think the corona virus now is? I think we cannot say that we are sure the corona virus is THE beginning.
I don’t want to fight, I’m just curious why you are so sure of it?

    • Hi Maria,

      Thanks for your comment. 🙂

Regarding your question, personally, I believe we are living in the times of the end and we are nearing the second coming of our Savior.

The Bible is clear that “all these are the beginning of sorrows” (Matthew 24:8).

All pandemics in the past are no doubt worse than what we are having right now. However, I personally believe that things would get worse before they get better as we wait for Christ’s return.

In the past, the pandemics would have not been the beginning of sorrow because there are other biblical prophecies that should be fulfilled. I know this can be a huge topic, but I would just say that the world is setting up the stage for the second coming of the Messiah.

So, in this sense, I believe this is the beginning of sorrow and will lead to bigger problems as we approach the end times.

      Regards,
      Joshua

  8. I do understand the point of keeping the food law. But even clean animals are not safe from diseases, as are some plants. It is important to follow the food law to keep ourselves clean but it doesn’t peotect us from other diseases that come from clean animals. We can critise chinese people but we should also critise our own country – animals held in such poor conditions that they are developing diseases and infecting other animals fast.
I’m just saying, we shouldn’t point with our fingers at other nations when in our own country certainly clean animals develop diseases, too. May God help us eat cleaner.

    • Hi Maria,

Thank you for your comment. I would definitely agree with you that even from clean animals, we still get diseases. However, this does not mean that we can simply ignore God’s food laws because clean animals can also cause problems.

For one, I strongly support the healthier and more humane way we should handle poultry and livestock. Because we also don’t follow biblical principles in producing food but rather we have perverted God’s natural design and have been motivated by greed, a lot of people are doing the wrong thing.

That’s why, as much as possible, it be better to grow your own food and not rely on commercialized food that has been perverted by human hands.

The goal of this blog isn’t to point fingers, but to identify what the problem is. Definitely, I agree that we all fall short in following godly principles and thus, we now have all sorts of diseases.

      Regards,
      Joshua
