The day was March 10, 1876.

It was the day when how we communicate with each other changed forever.

Alexander Graham Bell, the one recognized as the inventor of the telephone, made the first ever call using his model prototype.

The successful transmission of sounds through a line of wire was a revolutionary breakthrough that made our lives tremendously easy today.

Looking back, mankind has gone a long way when it comes to communication technologies. Today, we have sophisticated and innovative electronic devices that we thought are impossible just some decades ago.

From radio to smartphones, the world has become more connected and smaller as messages can now be transmitted within seconds.

However, there’s one particular thing that I would like to focus our mind into. I want you to notice the first ever words spoken on the telephone.

Bell was talking to his assistant, Thomas Watson.

And he said these words:

“Mr. Watson, come here – I want to see you.”

To Bell’s delight, Watson received and understood the message. So, Watson, who was in the other room, came to Bell and confirmed what was said.

Bell and Watson made history that day.

They were among the inventors who made a great impact on the rest of humanity’s history.

God is calling – will you answer_

A life-changing call

When was the last time you received a call that could potentially change your life?

Can you remember what was the call all about?

How did you respond?

Do you know that you have also received a call to accept a deep relationship with your Creator?

The mere fact that you are reading this, you have received a call from above. It is no accident that you are here. Your quest for learning more of God and doing His will in your life led you to this place.

As significant as the first telephone call between Bell and Watson, the call of God is more powerful and life-changing.

God is calling you today.

The question now is, “What are you doing with that calling?”

From fishers of fish to fishers of men

When Yahshua (Jesus Christ) walked on earth, He called to disciples who would be part of His inner circle.

As a wise Teacher as He is, Yahshua started His ministry by calling certain people. He wanted to start with a special group of people and train them to become leaders in the future.

We read the exciting moment when Christ called Peter, Andrew, James, and John.

And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” They immediately left their nets and followed Him.

“Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. He called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed Him (Matthew 4:18-22).

Now, we can read the powerful calling these men received from Yahshua, Himself.

Yahshua invites them to become fishers of men – to be used by God to call more people into His Church.

Instead of fishing for fish, Peter, Andrew, James, and John are now called to do greater work. In fact, they are called to do the GREATEST work on the face of the planet.

Their occupation will no longer just sustain them for a moment, but now, their occupation brings them to eternal life!

Yahshua gave these people a greater purpose in life. Not that there’s something wrong with fishing, but Yahshua’s job for them is bigger than anything else in the world.

A calling with great rewards

Today, God is calling a people to become His children. These people are being prepared for the great task they are going to undertake.

The road to eternal life may be difficult, but the rewards are exceedingly great.

If we become worthy through God’s grace and mercy, we will become future kings and priests in the coming Kingdom that will be ushered in by Yahshua in His second coming (Revelation 5:10).

We will reign together with Jesus Christ (Yahshua)!

How awesome would that be!

That’s why we are strongly urged by the Apostle Paul:

“I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”

With the incredible reward and life God is offering us, let me leave you with this question:

God is calling you – will you answer?
