Learn what the Bible says about Bitcoin and how it is possibly fulfilling biblical prophecy. Most importantly, discover what our focus should be as Christians as we approach the last days.
If you have been following the financial news today, it would be impossible to miss the term “Bitcoin.” No doubt, Bitcoins, and other cryptocurrencies could not be ignored anymore. Since its introduction on January 8, 2009, a single Bitcoin has soared to a staggering $20,000, leaving many people to wonder whether it will continue to rise or tumble down the hill. Its value can dramatically change in just a matter of weeks.
I’m not here to talk about how you can invest in Bitcoins, but I want to talk about what the mainstream media failed to address. I want to talk about something that’s more important than investing in Bitcoin. You won’t be seeing the information from this blog from big news companies such as CNN, BBC, or Fox.
In this blog, let us take a look at how Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are fulfilling Bible prophecy. Is Bitcoin even mentioned in the Bible? If it is, then what does the Bible say about it? Most importantly, what should be our focus, as Christians, should be?
What is Bitcoin?
Bitcoin is the leading cryptocurrency today. It is a form of digital asset that allows users to buy and sell products and services mainly over the Internet. Because Bitcoin is not governed by any central bank or single administrator, its potential as an internet currency is truly almost limitless.
With Bitcoin, you can easily send and receive money from anywhere in the world without having to go through a bank, making the transaction faster and more cost-effective. Since Bitcoin works within an open-source block-chain, it is difficult to cheat or commit fraud without other people noticing your activities. Everything can be tracked and anyone at any time can verify Bitcoin transactions.
Andreas M. Antonopoulos, the much-admired information-security expert and author, wrote in his best-selling book, The Internet of Money:
“There are almost 200 currencies of the world, but there’s only one international currency. There are almost 200 currencies controlled by central banks and governments, but there is only one mathematical currency today, and that is bitcoin. We are going to build more of them.”
“Cryptographic currencies are going to be a MAINSTAY of our financial future. They are going to be a part of the future of this planet because they have been invented. It’s as simple as that. You cannot un-invent this technology. You cannot turn this omelette back into eggs” (emphasis added).
The Government vs Bitcoin
With the golden glitters of Bitcoin shining brightly in the eyes of people, the same light blinds many people about the SCARY TRUTH. For the past years, the governments of this world just patiently wait and watch what Bitcoin may mean for this world’s economy. There are a good indication and evidence that governments, tax authorities, regulators, and global elites are now looking into the possibility of using Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies or at least duplicate bitcoin’s system to advance their own interest.
Thus, in the near future, we are going to see how governments and authorities will try to take more control of digital currencies. Governments recognize how difficult it is to stop or eliminate cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin. So, instead of destroying Bitcoin, they might be going to use it for their own good. As they say, “If you can’t beat them, join them.” There’s no way for any government to let a financial system that is so good to escape their control.
Bitcoin and the Mark of the Beast
Bitcoin is no doubt popular in this time and age, which leads many students of the Bible to speculate what role Bitcoin might play in fulfilling Bible prophecy.
Bitcoin is just one of the by-products of Daniel’s prophecy thousands of years ago, where he predicted the explosive increase in knowledge. We read:
“But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, AND KNOWLEDGE SHALL INCREASE.”
Indeed, we have seen how men have increased in knowledge astronomically, in ways beyond our wildest imaginations. We have achieved technological breakthroughs that were inconceivable just a century ago.
Bitcoin is one of the ways we are reinventing how we process finances and perform business transactions. It is a revolutionary method of buying and selling and if this method falls into the hands of an elite group, it may grant them a tremendous and powerful financial control.
This leads us to the question: could Bitcoin be used to fulfill the prophecy about the Mark of the Beast?
“He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, and that NO ONE MAY BUY OR SELL except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666” (Revelation 13:16-18).
So, does this explicitly say that Bitcoin will be the means for the Beast to control the financial system of this world and in turn, the people? The truth is, it is still too early to be dogmatic. For now, everything is just speculations. However, there is a possibility for the government to duplicate or improve Bitcoin’s financial system to attain financial control.
We need to realize that the Beast’s main platform is to promote prosperity, wealth, and abundance to everyone. They can only achieve this if they can control everyone’s financial behavior, from the national to a personal level. And that’s what is certain to happen.
The main thing that you should be concerned about
For now, the Bible isn’t clear how the Beast will achieve its goal. However, one thing is clear: for those who compromise their Christian values and principles will obtain the Mark of the Beast. While most people think that this mark is something that can be physically seen in people’s body and I don’t take away its possibility, I am confident to say that this mark comes with spiritual elements.
We read in the earlier verses of Revelation 13:
Then I saw another beast coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns like a lamb and spoke like a dragon. And he exercises all the authority of the first beast in his presence, and causes the earth and those who dwell in it to WORSHIP THE FIRST BEAST, whose deadly wound was healed.
He performs great signs, so that he even makes fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men. And he deceives those who dwell on the earth by those signs which he was granted to do in the sight of the beast, telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who was wounded by the sword and lived.
He was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak and cause as many as would not WORSHIP THE IMAGE OF THE BEAST to be killed” (Revelation 13:11-15).
You see, at the end, it is really not Bitcoin that we should be worrying about. IT IS OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD. There will come a time when a world-ruling government will decisively intervene and persecute the true worshipers of God and will do all things within his power to sway the majority of this world’s population to be part of a counterfeit religion.
What must we do then?
The Apostle Peter gave a powerful sermon during the Day of Pentecost. The people listening to him were cut to the heart and asked a life-changing question:
“Men and brethren, what shall we do?”
The answer of Peter is just as applicable and valid for us as it was during their time. He said:
“REPENT, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
Jesus (Yahshua) Christ, Himself, said:
“…unless you repent you will all likewise perish” (Luke 13:3).
More and more people are putting their faith in Bitcoin. However, time will come when Bitcoin will actually be worthless like gold and silver. At the end of it all, only one thing will matter – it is your relationship with God, your Creator and Jesus Christ, your Savior.
Don’t let Bitcoin or any material wealth distracts you from what truly is important, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (Matthew 6:33).
