In a world full of lies, it is difficult to trust anyone or anything anymore. As we live in the digital and internet age, fake news spread faster than the truth. The people who promised to take care of you fail you.
A lot of people are out there to deliberately deceive others. Even the closest friends can betray one another.
I heard one person say, “It is dangerous to trust an honest person because you don’t know when he is going to lie.”
Oh, how true this quotation is as we see people who are supposed to be trustworthy have lived a life of life.
In the past, a simple handshake seals a contract. When you give your word, people know that you will deliver. But now, truthfulness and honor have become a thing of the past.
It seems we can’t trust anyone anymore.
However, here’s the good news: You can trust God — fully, totally, and COMPLETELY!
Of course, it is easier said than done. Because of our human experience and tendencies, it is not always easy to trust our heavenly Father.
Yes, we can trust Him when time is good and everything is going our way. However, can you still trust Him when all things seem not to go your way?
I know and you know, it is not always easy to trust God.
That’s why, in this blog, I want to make it easier for you. I want to show you the 7 steps you can take right now to start believing and trusting God.
So, how to trust God? Here are seven steps to take!
Step 1: Trust God by knowing who He is
The very first thing you need to do when you want to trust God is to know Him.
When it comes to trusting people, who would you trust more, a stranger or a friend? Obviously, it is easier to trust a friend. Why? Because you know that person.
In the same way, you can’t trust God if you don’t know Him. If you don’t know who God is, His character, His purpose and will for you, you are going to have a tough time believing in Him.
Psalms 9:10 tells us:
And those who know Your name will put their trust in You;
For You, LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You.
As you can see, the Bible tells us that we must know God. Now, one of the first steps you should take is to know His name.
Do you know His name? The name “God” is actually a title. It’s not a name. God has a name and His true name is Yahweh. It is the name that sets Him apart from other false gods of this world.
Yes, we can call God our Father, but to have more knowledge about God, you have to know His true name, which is Yahweh.
His name tells us a lot about who He is and His nature. Yahweh means the ever-existing One — the One who was, who is, and who will be.
Knowing God is so crucial that Yahshua or Jesus Christ said in John 17:3:
“And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”
What is eternal life?
According to Yahshua, it’s knowing God and His Son!
That’s how important it is to know God.
So, if you want to learn how to trust the Almighty, you got to know who He is.

Step 2: Trust God by knowing his Promises
If you want to learn how to trust God, you must know His promises. You need to be familiar with what He says that He will do for you.
We all know that we must trust God, but trust Him for what? Trust Him for His promises.
Part of knowing God is to know His promises. Once you know these promises, you can then hold onto them and build your prayers around the verses where you find these promises.
Here are some of the best promises of God that you should know:
I am with you
Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’ Isaiah 41:10
God will not allow difficulties you can’t handle
No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. 1 Corinthians 10:13
God will work all things out for good
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28
God will provide our needs
“Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. Matthew 6:31-32
God will give us strength
He gives power to the weak,
And to those who have no might He increases strength. Isaiah 40:29
God will not leave us nor forsake us
Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6
God will fight for you
For the LORD your God is He who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.’ Deuteronomy 20:4
These are just some of the important promises of God and each of them gives you stronger and more powerful reasons to trust in Him.
Step 3: Trust God by knowing God’s reliability
Now you know some of the promises of God, how would you know He will keep it?
After all, we are all too familiar with the saying, “Promises are made to be broken.”
That might be true for the world, but for God, He is telling us, “Promises are made to be fulfilled.”
People may not be reliable, but you can be sure that God is reliable. When He says He will do something, He will definitely do it.
He is consistent and trustworthy.
You can always count on Him.
We read in Number 23:19:
“God is not a man, that He should lie,
Nor a son of man, that He should repent.
Has He said, and will He not do?
Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?
This should tell us that God will not only promise something but He has ALL the power in this vast universe to keep His promises.
Hebrews 6:18 added:
That by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us.
As you can see, why can you trust God?
Because He is completely reliable. He doesn’t lie. And most importantly, He is the supreme God who has the POWER to deliver every single promise He has given.
Step 4: Trust God by knowing His Love
What does God’s love have to do with trusting Him? Well, it has to do with everything!
You can trust God because He loves you!
Because of the immense and unimaginable love of God for us, everything that He has planned for us is all good for us. He never meant any harm. He never caused anything to destroy us.
Everything that God does is done out of love.
He loves us so much that He was willing to make the ultimate sacrifice and that is to send His beloved Son to this world (John 3:16) and die the most gruesome death any human being could have conceived!
Romans 8:32 tells us:
He who did NOT spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?
This bible verse is basically telling us that God didn’t even withhold His Son for us. If God was willing to give up His Son, how much more would He give us everything that we need?
That’s the extent and magnitude of God’s love for us. God even loved us not when we are already righteous, but He has loved us while we were still sinners!
We read in Romans 5:8:
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Can you imagine that?
We, as humans, have rebelled and sinned against God over and over again. Yet, God’s love for us is still there and He doesn’t give up on us.
He still invites us to change and develop a close relationship with Him.
And because God loves us, what makes Him happy? Luke 12:32 tells us:
“Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.”
God’s happiness and pleasure are to give us the Kingdom. That’s the ultimate goal of God. He wants us to be saved, to be transformed into spiritual beings, and be part of His glorious Family!
So, how can you not trust a God who constantly loves you, cares for you, and thinks of you? How can you not trust a God whose only goal is to provide you with eternal life and a chance to salvation? How can you not trust a God who won’t hesitate to give you all the things that you need?
Surely, God is worthy of our trust!
Step 5: Trust God by developing the eyes of faith
Trusting God can be really difficult if you don’t have faith.
That’s why it is super important to strengthen your faith so you can also trust in God.
The Bible tells us:
“For we walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7).
In life, there are a lot of things that can wear you down. You may come to a point where all you see physically are problems with no solutions.
you can’t fully trust God without faith and you can’t fully have faith without trust in Him
However, as the Apostle Paul mentioned, if you only use your physical eyes, you will surely stumble. You will surely forget to trust God.
After all, how can you trust God if all you see are problems after problems with no solutions in sight?
Well, the answer is by using the eyes of faith.
Indeed, we walk by faith and not by sight. It basically means that whenever we are going through difficult times, it is not enough to simply look around, you need to look up.
You need to look to God because He is still on His throne. He is still in control and He is still not done with you. The work He has started in you He will finish until the end.
Remember the servants of God in the Bible. What kept them going in spite of their hardships in life?
They used the eyes of faith.
We read in Hebrews 11:13-14:
These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having SEEN them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. 14 For those who say such things declare plainly that they seek a homeland.
These people didn’t simply know the promises of God, but they have also seen them with their eyes of faith! Perhaps, God even showed them supernaturally what the future holds for them.
What I’m saying is you can’t fully trust God without faith and you can’t fully have faith without trust in Him.
Faith and trust work hand in hand.
So, if you truly want to know how to trust God, you need to know how to have faith in Him as well.
Step 6: Trust God by reading the stories of faithful servants of God
Today, people talk about how God changed their lives and how trusting in Him has made them stronger in faith.
While it is great to listen to their testimonials, you may also want to read the inspiring and beautiful biblical stories of people who trusted in God.
You can start going through the list of people mentioned in Hebrews 11. When you read through their life, you will be filled with inspiration and motivation. You will learn how God has worked with them as long as they have put their trust in Him.

Step 7: Trust God by seeking His will in your life
Finally, to truly trust God, you must know His will and purpose for your life. When you truly understand God’s plan of salvation, you have a better understanding of the purpose of life, where we are going, and what God has in store for humanity as well.
It is true that you don’t have to understand everything to trust God. However, it is easier for us to trust Him if we understand His plan.
That’s why, when you seek God’s will in your life, you gain a supernatural direction. It serves as a guide and tells you which path you should take. It gives you purpose. It gives meaning to your very existence.
Take note of this: when you seek God’s will in your life, you are letting God guide you.
When you know God’s will, you become more thankful when He blesses you. You become wiser when difficulties come upon you. You gain a better perspective in life because you know God’s invisible hand is guiding you.
Thus, no matter what happens in life, when you know you are seeking God’s will in your life, it becomes easier for you to trust Him.
Decide to trust in God completely!

God is undeniably trustworthy and He is worthy of all our confidence and trust. However, believing is not enough. We need to make the decision right now — not tomorrow, next month, or next year. I mean NOW!
