What is the best place to start reading the Bible?

If you’ve ever held a Bible, stared at its thousands of pages, and thought, “Where on earth do I even begin?”—trust me, you’re not alone.

Build a Life-Changing Habit of Daily Scripture and Reflection in Just One Week

Now, let me share something personal.

When I first tried reading the Bible back in high school, I thought the “logical” thing to do was start at the very beginning—Genesis.
That made sense, right? Start where the story starts.

So I opened Genesis… and after a few chapters, I’ll be honest—I was overwhelmed.
The long genealogies.
The timelines.
The events stacked on top of each other.
It felt like trying to drink from a firehose.
I felt lost and confused.

So I thought, “Okay, maybe I’ll try the New Testament.”
I jumped into Matthew.
And yes, I started strong.
But slowly, I lost motivation.
Not because Matthew isn’t powerful—but because I didn’t yet understand the bigger picture.

Then, I landed in Proverbs.
And everything changed.

Suddenly, Scripture felt alive.
One chapter a day.
Short.
Practical.
Punchy.
Relevant.

It felt like God was giving me clear, simple wisdom for real life.
It was doable.
And it gave me momentum.

And momentum matters.
More than you think.

Now, let me say this upfront: we’re all different.
What worked for me might not be your perfect starting point.
And that’s okay.

But based on experience—my own and the people I’ve helped—Proverbs is an incredible place to begin.
Why?
Because it has 31 chapters.
That means one chapter a day for an entire month.
And because it’s so practical, you actually feel like you’re getting something every single day.

Plus—this is big—finishing a chapter gives you a sense of accomplishment.
And that feeling?
That’s what builds consistency.
That’s what helps you keep going.

After Proverbs, you can slowly expand.
Pick a short book—Ruth, Esther, Jonah, or one of the epistles.
If you love stories, jump into Judges.
You’ll be surprised by how exciting and action-packed the Bible actually is.

But let me challenge you with something deeper.
Something bigger.
Something life-changing.

Make it your goal to read the Bible from cover to cover.

I know—just hearing that might feel overwhelming.
But listen…
When you finally read the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation, it becomes one of the greatest achievements of your life.
And honestly, if there’s only one Book you will ever read from start to finish, let it be the Bible—the revealed Word of God.

And I want to help you with that journey.
I don’t want you to walk through the Bible alone.

That’s why I created an insightful online course called From Cover to Cover.”
This course will guide you step-by-step through the Bible.
Every day, you’ll get reading instructions.
Every day, you’ll receive reflections that help you understand what you just read.
It’s like having someone walk beside you through Scripture, helping things come alive.

Before we end, let me leave you with this:

It’s not about knowing the perfect place to start.
It’s not about finishing fast.
It’s not about understanding everything all at once.

It’s about starting.
Today.
Right now.

Because the Bible isn’t just a book you read.
It’s a Book that reads you.
It shapes you.
It guides you.
It transforms you.

So take the first step.
Open the Word.
And let God speak.

I hope this is the beginning of a beautiful journey for you.
